Is a tin of Samuel Gawith 1792 worth buying for $22? My local cigar shop has a tin for sale, but the price has me on the fence.

If you've never had it before, give it a shot! One of my all time favorites...

A lot of money to throw at something that many find off putting. If you're a fan of Lakelands it may be a safe choice, but some are very intolerant of tonquin.

It’s just one of the best Flake tobaccos ever produced. If it were easily obtainable I’d tell ya to get it online but now with its scarcity, I’d go ahead and buy if for $22 if I were in your situation. Sometimes it’s worth spending the extra money to support your local B&M.

1792 Flake is amazing. Pull the trigger! Even at 22 a tin, we’re talking about a buck fifty for each hour of smoking bliss. Pretty reasonable!

I do like lakeland! I am not sure if the price puts me off or the owner of the shop. He is super unfriendly! I buy from him once a month (around $30per) and it seems he has no time to talk, even small talk like the weather or how his day is going.

Keep your ear to the ground and sign up for notifications from websites. I've seen 1792 on sale over five times this year and has several times been the last to sell out. It tends to sell for $50 lately for the 250g boxes.

Its great stuff. If I could find it for 22$ a tin, here in Vancouver, I wouldnt think twice. Not that I need any more of it, but can you ever have enough of it....

That’s just about what any type of tobacco will cost me here in Hawaii from a local B&M shop, so I’d pull the trigger on it. Largely in part because I like to support local businesses, especially when they are of a tobacco nature.

Did you check the production date of the tin? 1792 age very well and 22 $ could be a bargain if it has 4 or 5 years on it.

Few months ago I scored 5 yo old tin of Escudo at a B&M so it can happen.
Another consideration, but only if you are sure you like that kind of tobacco, is to get the Cob plug which is the 1792 plug version and even better. At Synjeco you can get a 250 gm brick (so like 5 tins) for a little bit more than 50$ + shipping. But again you need to be sure you like it as 1792 is a love or hate baccy.

1792 is both unique and classic in equal measure. It's a "once in a while" smoke for me and I'm happy it's still around. While it may not be to your taste, it will satisfy your curiosity and at least you'll know what everyone else is talking about when they mention it. If you're a serious pipe person I'd say it's worth a $22 buy and try.

I throw in my two pennies in as far as Embers' remark on people being impartial to tonquin - for a long time that was my major drawback on trying this tobacco, as I am not a tonquin fan, but in truth the tonquin scent is more than tolerable, it's not an in your face approach like for say the candy like OTC aromatics. Give it a shot, and hold your breeches ... some of us find the stuff being quite strong.

I didn’t rate this tobacco very well, another poor choice, should have saved my money!

Experimenting is expensive, so will stick to the ones I like in the future.
