Pipes are made out of many various woods, but you'll save yourself time and disappointment if you stick with known brands in briar.

Now THAT is one pipe I'd immediately introduce to the wire wool!

 It's so deeply carved that no wire wool can remove it! Hardcore stuff!

Nothing political here, but when I was a radioman on a minesweeper in the South China Sea, the Soviet Union was still "a thing," and their "trawlers," actually electronics heavy surveillance vessels, ghosted us up and down our assigned track. They played chicken crossing in front of us. It was said that some of the destroyers bothered by this would sidle up close and blow their bilge out the vents in the hulls, basically emptying their sewage onto the smaller vessel. Related to this post, I never noticed any of the crew of the trawlers smoking pipes, for whatever that is worth. Note: My minesweeper was USS Gallant MSO 489 from which I get my user name. My ship was sold years ago to the Taiwanese navy and is likely still in service.

Since we've segued to boats, I've a friend who used to take his sub into the Sea of Okhotsk, settle onto the phone lines and retrieve/replace recording devices. The Russians thought landlines to be more secure than encrypted cyber messages. They were a bit behind in the security business. Most likely still are.

Are you sure it's really from Russia? I think that's just the latest FDA label requirement for pipe production.

I hear the Russians have some accomplished pipe carvers with their prices set accordingly, but I don't see good factory pipes coming from there, though that could happen. If they start working in briar, that could mean they're serious about producing good pipes.

One of my pipes, a sitter, is possessed of too easy a draw. Other than that, both smoke well. Nothing special but, they are acceptable smokers, reasonably constructed. I'd class both of them as decent "basket" pipes, good but ... nothing special. I doubt the number of pipe smokers in Russia would support a "factory." But, my Russian experiences are limited to east of the Lena for the most part. I really can't speak to the West with it's larger and more cosmopolitan population.

Josef Stalin was a pipe smoker. He had quite a collection if you ever watch the documentaries on the history channel

Just out of curiosity I googled Joseph Stalin's pipe and founs some very interesting stuff. Here is the link
https://legendofhistory.com/joseph-stalins-smoking-pipe.php
I found this excerpt particularly amusing
Stalin himself cracked [jokes], including this one about a visit from a Georgian delegation: They come, they talk to Stalin, and then they go, heading off down the Kremlin's corridors. Stalin starts looking for his pipe. He can't find it. He calls in Beria, the dreaded head of his secret police. "Go after the delegation, and find out which one took my pipe," he says. Beria scuttles off down the corridor. Five minutes later Stalin finds his pipe under a pile of papers. He calls Beria--"Look, I've found my pipe." "It's too late," Beria says, "half the delegation admitted they took your pipe, and the other half died during questioning."
It's a very fascinating website if you're into the history of the WW2 era. It's a collection (treasure trove) of documents and photographs from the period the period. I just spent 21/2 hours and 3 full bowls browsing it and it's 2 AM

"Does it come with a little microphone inside it?"
No, but if you twist the stem just right, it becomes a 9mm pipe. Not 9mm filter, but 9x18, if you know what I mean.
"A surprising number yearn for the "all controlling" government of the Czar or the Party. It's a wonder."
Well, that one's easy, Warren. In a system like that, you don't have to accept blame for anything. It's all the fault of the "system" or the "Party". In a system where you are free to realize your full potential, and you fall on your ass, you may forget to blame "the system" and accidentally realize you're lazy, dumb, or just plain unlucky. It can be hard for some people to accept. (And for the mods, that's a general note on the human condition, not a political statement.)
As for the pipe, I'd rank that motif right up there with SS runes or a KKK logo in the bad taste department. As a collectible, possibly acceptable, but I sure wouldn't smoke it.
