If you like Erinmore, it will likely suit you're palate.

Hey everyone read my signature! :ROFLMAO:

RY is a hate or love thing, personally I love it. Slow sipping with a cadence in a narrow tall pipe gives me a pure pleasure for 45 minutes or so, it burns really well without leaving any moisture in the bowl, but fine white ash. And yes I love Erinmore flake, too.

Hey I thought in ‘The Guide to Smoking’ on page 24, any tobacco can be a Love or Hate Relation. :)

A couple weeks ago I saw a tin at the B&M so I snagged it up out of curiosity. It's...a nice Virginia! I think I'd be more apt to smoke it often if it wasn't so pricey and came in bigger tins. I like the topping, don't think it's as loud as the reviews I've read make it out to be.

Did you get lucky with a Murray Era Tin or was it STG?

I find no similarities between Erinmore and Royal Yacht.
Royal Yacht lost it's strength a little after Erinmore by my estimations.
I also surmise that Royal Yacht's topping was originally formulated to make the tobacco taste as if it had perique... adding that plummy (+whatever) flavor, but over time whoever the tobacconists responsible for adjusting the casing and topping to the tobacco just gave up at trying to keep adjusting to different tasting Virginias... and now we have just a chemical mess atop of what might otherwise be a decent tobacco.
That is the only way I can fathom why the topping tastes like shit. Otherwise, who would want that flavor in their mouth or even in their general vicinity.

I'm pretty sure Deathmetal was just messing with us. Sure sure, some people seem to like it. But, there are actual dimwits falling for Mixture 79 over and over again. So, maybe someone just created Royal Yacht to suit the tastes of guys who like to lick hairy fat women's armpits and love the smell of lockerrooms. That is the only explanation I can come up with. Someone's gotta fill that niche. puffy

Halfway through a tin. I don't think it's brilliant. Slight plum smell in the jar, not really much taste in the smoke thou.
Don't think I'd buy it again. However everyone is different. I got a tin because of the hype. Lesson learned there I think ?.
It's not terribly bad thou. I had been smoking a couple of English and Va/per blends for a few days and fancied a bowl of yacht all day. Unfortunately that changed when I had the bowl ??.

Reminds me I should have a bowl tomorrow morning after some oatmeal and mango slices. Should go well with some Earl Grey tea, a teaspoon of honey and a dash of milk.

Like others have said. It's reputation proceeds it. It's been around for a century. RY topping was strong on that first bowl of a fresh tin. After subsequent bowls, I still can't find the tang, and have to search for it. It dissipates in the tin/jar/bag after a while, perhaps "gassing off". Still a great blend and the nicotine is there, but won't make you sleep.

There isn't anything in my rotation that is similar to it, but it's a popular blend for a reason. I remember seeing someone post a picture of about 30 tins of the Dunhill era right around the time they were calling it quits.

Yeh... it's like plum, but not plum. Kinda like a fart smells like sulfur, but not exactly. Either my explanation above is closer to the truth... or else Englishmen back in the day had no sense of taste, so they fell for that flavor as being close enough to a VaPer to satisfy their tastes. Or, they just like things that suck.
Peterson's University Flake is very similar, but with less of a repulsive chemical overtone.

My suggestion to folks looking for plummy and strength is to just try University Flake. It will be way less assaulting to their tastebuds.

Probably smoked 50 tins of the Dunhill stuff. Just started on my first tin of the new Peterson branded batch. I know yeah, yeah made by the same company just different name on the label but they are NOT the same. The new stuff is a little sweeter and the topping is nowhere near as “in your face”. Seems to be geared for middle of the road tastebuds now. It’s still good, just not the same. No chance of bite no matter how you smoke it. It really is a set it and forget it blend......just my 2 cents on it;)
