Royal Yacht is great stuff! Unique flavor and not a typical goopy aromatic. Has decent nicotine and is a blend I plan on stocking up on since only have 1 open tin and 1 in cellar, which is probably enough to last a long while with all the choices these days but if it gets discontinued again many people will be sad:(

Yeh... it's like plum, but not plum. Kinda like a fart smells like sulfur, but not exactly. Either my explanation above is closer to the truth... or else Englishmen back in the day had no sense of taste, so they fell for that flavor as being close enough to a VaPer to satisfy their tastes. Or, they just like things that suck.
Peterson's University Flake is very similar, but with less of a repulsive chemical overtone.

My suggestion to folks looking for plummy and strength is to just try University Flake. It will be way less assaulting to their tastebuds.

One of the rare occasions where it seems my tastes don’t line up with yours! To me, University Flake has ten times more the added flavor than Royal Yacht. Interesting!

I popped the tin just now to jar it and curiosity got the best of me so I'm having a small bowl now.

Tin note I got green grapes and a little bit of raisin.

First light was creamy, a teeny hint of sweet and a kind flavor that I like. I'm not having success keeping it lit. This is basically zero dry time from tin but it felt dry enough.

I'm going to keep digging but am basically getting nice smoke but a wierd waxy after taste. I don't know what that's about.

Gotta puff on this a bit more to know how I feel about it.

Still having trouble keeping lit, not sure why.

In retrohale I get a weird imitation fruity opposed to the real fruit note I got from the tin.

The flavor has changed to a nice dark chocolate flavor that I like. I'm still getting the waxy after taste though. I prefer to retrohale and I am finding this blend a tad harsh there but not terrible or anything.

I'm on the fence about this one. I'm smoking my smallest bowl which is a MM wood pipe that I normally smoke Maltese Falcon in. Maybe a bad choice there on my part but I thought this blend was high on vitamin n..no hit yet.

I'm going to try it again in one of my cobbs later and see if anything changes. Not impressed really but don't hate it so far.

The not staying lit thing is strange, for me it’s a set it n forget kinda burn. Pack it, light it and 30 min later the bowl is empty! I find this stuff is just a good solid Virginia smoke with just enough of a top note to keep me from falling asleep. Don’t look for any kind of crazy depth of flavor with it. Try several bowls in the same pipe, preferably one that hasn’t had Latakia run through it. It ain’t for everyone, most either love it or hate it. I’m in the it’s good but not great camp. Personally I’ve never felt the nic from any pipe tobacco so I have no input on that front;)

Curiosity got the better of me once...once. I tried a bowl about ten years ago, and quickly realized that the most scathing reviews on tobaccoreviews.com couldn't have gotten it more wrong. Their rants just didn't prepare me sufficiently, this stuff was way worse than anyone in-the-know let on in their reviews. I quickly threw the remainders of the tin in a bonfire, thinking the smoke would at least drive away the mosquitoes. Big mistake. What arose from the flames was nothing short of demonic. Devils and fallen angels danced and played in the flames of the burning RY, and the wails of Yoko Ono filled my ears. I learned my lesson and have never again fallen for the false promises of this hell-weed. California itself couldn't come up with a stern enough tin warning to stay away or else. Do not, I repeat, do not under any circumstances pop a tin of RY, and if you have any in your cellar, take it to a battery recycling facility and pray they handle disposal properly.
Kidding aside, I really only did try one bowl from a tin about ten years ago, and had to throw out all the clothes I was wearing that night after dumping the tin in the fire. A truly foul weed.

Yes, but in UF, I think it actually tastes more like plums, artificial plums, but plums none-the-less. RY tastes more like a chemical mistake that was supposed to taste like plums. I agree, UF has more flavoring, but that wasn't exactly what I meant.

I just cleaned most of my Pipes this morning while it was raining. I may revisit the yacht this evening but in one of my cobbs that don't know lat exist.

I don't know why but I had trouble keeping several pipes lit lately. It's been windy\rainy and always high humidity so maybe that played a part.
It seems like I might need to put UF on my to buy list.

If you like Erinmore, it will likely suit you're palate.
now why in the heck is this the first time I am hearing this!
I expected Royal Yacht to be quite a hell raiser after the build-up, and I held the tin for a long time, and Forums members finally exhorted me to open it and give it a go. I was on a strong tobacco kick at the time, but I found it quite comfortable with no particular nic kick at all. I smoked it in rotation and never got it into a jar, and enjoyed that plum tang (or whatever it is). It wasn't at all overbearing to me. I have another tin cooling its heels in its original Dunhill tin.
funny thing about nic levels is they're not always the same from person to person. Certain toppings will in some people and not others help the body absorb the nicotine faster. So some can really kick one persons backside and leave another saying it's completely normal. That said the only thing I've smoked that gave me the wow this has a lot of nic is Semios and only if I smoke it too fast.
