This is a great, and timely, thread. I was just thinking yesterday about the winter months. My wife isn't digging the SRW room note. Her dad smoked a cherry baccy so that's my next try; planning on picking up some paladin after church today.

Thanks a lot everyone - I am taking notes! So far, based on the number of recommendations, will be calling Boswell's on Monday and looking for 1Q for starters. Looking forward to trying these.

Um. I know they sell lots of cherry tobaccos - but my personal experience has not been positive. I have never smoked Paladin, and don't intend to, but I understand it's pretty goopy. I would strongly recommend checking out a bit higher quality blend. :puffy:

Yep, you'll have to try several of these recommendations. Poor you! :puffy:
Blue Note is a solid choice, and 4noggins blends like Lord Methley (my current fave) or Three Blind Moose are worth a spin...

I'll be picking up Boswell's Berry Cobbler, Christmas Cookie, and Raspberry Creme as part of my next TAD purchase. I'll let you know what my wife and I think about the room note after I've had a few bowls of each.

Jud, thanks for that input. As it happens the place I stopped at didn't have any so I didn't get any. Now that I've seen your comment I think I'll pass on it altogether. There are several good sounding items here so I think I'll just wait a bit and go for some of the reccomendations.

Thanks Shawn622 and Voorhees - I am making notes and will be looking for those. Neither my wife nor kids are liking any of the blends I've tried so far, so I know I need to find some pleasant smelling tobaccos or basement here I come!
So far, I've just ordered:
Boswell's Bear Blend, Pennsylvania Dutch Treat, Christmas Cookie, Raspberry Cream, Berry Cobbler, Piper's Pleasure (I did like that I can order a single ounce from them!)
LL-1Q, H&H Egg Nog, H&H Caramel Apple Pie
Now my next question is: am I buying too much too fast? With shipping being somewhat high, seems best to get several with a single order than only a few with several orders.
Will these last long if they're plastic baggies? And for those that are in tins, once opened, how long do they last and is there a preferred way to store small amts?
Sorry for all the newbie questions! But I really appreciate your tips and advice.

Berry cobbler by boswells is lovely both in flavor and smells great. Christmas cookie, however I can't taste anything when I smoke it. But it does smell good.

Personally, I don't think you're purchasing at too rapid of a rate. I tend to purchase $100 worth of tobacco every month in order to avoid shipping charges altogether and to increase my cellar. Depending on the amount you smoke in a day, you might want to consider jarring them up to avoid them drying up and once you open then tins, place the tin in a baggie. There are Ball Mason Jars that are perfect for storing tobacco that you can find at most Wal-Marts and hobby stores that will run you around $10 for a dozen. Just make sure to wash them out before you throw your baccy in them. Good luck and make sure to keep us updated on your thoughts about the Boswell blends. I've heard nothing but good things about their blends on this forum.

Numbersix, I'm glad you asked these questions as I'd wondered about many of them, too, already. I figured shipping costs would make small orders prohibitive, or at least not smart. I'm planning on making my first order next month so please keep us informed as to what you think, as newbie like myself, of the different blends. I look forward to reading about your adventures

Another vote for MacBaren Vanilla Creme. Last night I discovered an old jar of it I sealed a year or two ago and decided to have a bowl. My wife immediately said "What is that? It smells great!".

I don't smoke aromatics as a general rule, but try one every now and then after reading a review. Ordered some

Brebbia Calvados mix no. 110 on a whim. When the tin arrived, it has Premium Golden Virginia, some Burley (I'm

thinking OK so far) and then read French apple grape, now I'm thinking this tin will be in the trash in about ten

minuets.

I was surprised that it was actually good and my wife commented that it smelled nice without me asking.

Caledonian Highland Cream This must be the absolutt winner in room note. it also tastes great if you like aro's. Tin note fantastic, room note fantastic and tastes good. even if I'm not too into aro's myself, this is a winner.

+1 on Sutliff Private Stock's "Molto Dolce"
My girlfriend says the room note is that of a waffle cone. I don't personally get that, but it is very sweet & creamy in a good way. Although I find the tobacco somewhat sticky it's a good smoke, and it's got nothing but good responses from people who've been around when I've smoked it. :)
