I'm glad you're taking a chance to make it better. Pain free mobility as a result would be miraculous, but anything is possible.

There are a few of us who can relate to impending surgeries, myself included, and I just want to add my empathy and awareness to all of us who struggle for quality of life.

Here's to a happy outcome that allows you to focus on something other than pain.

Nate, very best of luck in your operation. Had my own back worked on once, the traditional way.

I had begun this thread for fascination of the surgical method. I wasn't expecting so many well wishes!! I VERY much appreciate so many kind words! I truly appreciate you guys! Very much appreciated! Should I not survive the procedure, I'll leave orders to have my stash redistributed here :puffy:

Hoping for a great outcome & wishing you a speedy recovery.
BTW: most states mandate by law that patient's may have access to their medical records & have the right to receive copies, including imaging (x-rays, CT/MRI/US, photos, & videos), for a reasonable copying/processing fee. Usually you will need to complete a Release of Information Request/HIPAA Form. I don't know how this works in AL.

Jack, I was talking about photos/videos of the procedure. Those aren't ever taken and are therefore not a part of my medical record. When I had my two level total disc arthroplasty, the procedure is done by through the front, about a foot plus incision from chest to belly button. One surgeon is in charge of moving aside organs to access the spinal column. I REALLY wanted a photo of my opened up on the table at some point in the 7+hr surgery. It was a no go. No photographs/video is taken :(

I'm also fascinated with the application of robotics in surgery. Before I retired I watched several procedures done with the da Vinchi surgical robot.
There are videos on youtube demonstrating this technology.

Man, 7 hour surgery, that's crazy! I'm going in for surgery on my sinuses next Friday but it's only an hour procedure. I'm really looking forward to how my tobacco will taste once I heal up from the procedure.
Any idea what the total dollar value of your surgery is?

You mean for that 7hr procedure? At the time, disc implants were VERY new. I was among the first to have a two stage. Insurance would only cover one. I paid for the other, well over 100k out of pocket. Crazy shit huh? I was planning my suicide literally. The disc implants made life tolerable, something I wasn't prior.

Good luck to you! I wouldn't have thought about, but yeah I bet that'll change your taste. Interesting.

Much thanks! Already awake counting down my incision free hours... always hate these few pre-surgery hours. Have to be at hospital at 7am and surgery between 8am-9am :(

It's past the time for your surgery, you are probably in slumber land, but you were on my mind knowing Monday was your surgery day. I wish nothing but the best for you.Nate.
