I was surprised to read that she was that old. She didn't seem to age much in the last 20 years. I recall when she was on 60 Minutes eons ago, might be one of the best interviews they did. While I was never much into her music but she seemed like an exceptionally classy woman who had the rare ability to be elegant, sexy, warm, and humerous.

Yeh, my wife texted this to me when she heard. I was like, so what? We didn't even ever listen to her. I think that she came into her own musically in the 80's which was unfortunate. In the 80's music was produced to sound best on a TV sets sorry ass speakers. And, it sounds terrible on a good audio system, IMO. The 80's just sucked musically.
She was a great performer though.

I'm sure the insurance company was happy that they never had to pay out on a claim for her legs which were apparently insured for up to a million dollars.

Just noticed. "The legs" was a name I heard back in 80s. Wasn't really my type of music, but do bring all those memories from my early teens. Truly sad to see her go.

I always think of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome when I think of her. There was a steep hill along the edge of a road near my house growing up, we tied a rope swing to a tree at the top and would swing out over the traffic below. The hill was barren red clay with islands of clumps of grass scattered about, the clumps of grass looked like Tina Turner hair so we called the spot Tina Turner Hill, not very inventive but it worked. May she rest in peace.

I remember an interview with her the night she left Ike after he beat her to a pulp, she showed up at a Ramada Inn with 36 cents and a gas card, bleeding all over the place and basically begged them for a room and promising to pay them back as soon as she got paid for her show the next day and yes they gave her the room, according to the hotel's website they even put her in the Presidential Suite. After that she was cleaning friend's homes as a maid. She said she would always earn her own way and she did.

She didn't even hit big till she was in her 40s, from 36 cents to 250 million dollars!

What about hair metal? And Ratt? Surely they didn’t suck…right!?!?

John Cougar had a sound that transcended the 80’s sound. I liked lots of bands, some we call hair metal now. But, I’ve never been genre specific. But, I was in a garage band that played a lot of AcDc and Kiss. But, as a drummer I also pulled from Genesis and even Iron Maiden. But, I was listening to… crap… I’m a music whore. Ha ha. I listen to everything. But, what people label as that 80’s sound twists a nerve.

Tina was cool. Just too bad she didn’t come into herself early 70’s or 90’s. But, she could work them legs.

As referenced above, I remember her mostly from 'Beyond Thunderdome' and of course 'River Deep, Mountain High' who Deep Purple covered beautifully on their 'Book of Taliesin' album.

Jay.

You're out of your tiny mind, Cosmic. How could you say that about a decade that produced this..
