Hey folks,
I recall a while back I was driving along the highway in Missouri. I passed by someone in a eye-worthy 70's station wagon who was smoking a RIDICULOUSLY huge briar pipe. The bowl was probably about the size of his hand. I didn't see if it was lit, but he had leather gloves on to hold it.
I'm just curious from a novelty standpoint; is this an actual pipe style or was he just trying to get some looks?

Does Brad drive a station wagon cause I know he has a few monsters?!? I have some pretty big pipes and smoke them often but none the size of my fist, but my fist is about the size of a small ham.

I tend to go for small to medium pipes myself, but to each his/her own. I tend to be a wet smoker, as well, so that further compounds the issue of a lot of wet dottle.
Fun fact: A subset of American(maybe abroad) male homosexuals known as bears and/or leather daddies often gravitate toward these monstrous pipes. @dvorak that may be what you saw.

I don't think Brad is a bear nor a leather daddy. He may very well have been driving that Station Wagon though.

When I first started smoking I always wanted one of those jumbo pipes. I think of them as more of a novelty myself anymore. Except for a cob McArthur, love that pipe.

papipeguy, I wonder if it makes a difference how they pack it?
I have thought about a Boswell's. Some of their churchwardens look interesting.

I have one gigantic pipe, a Millville that looked perfectly proportioned on eBay, and it was when it got here too....the proportions were just Cyclopean. You could use the thing as a shillelagh. It's heavier than normal too, because even as big as it is, the chamber is relatively normal, the walls being 4/5" thick.
