If you ever wanted to try a giant pipe without breaking the bank, Mr. Brog sells some very large pear wood pipes. I have a Giant XL, which takes a couple hours to smoke. Mr. Brog also has a larger one called the Lumberjack or something.
Wow, and I thought that my 1" diameter Savinelli dry system pot was large.
I had read that a well-known pipemaker had said that pipes over 1" were hard to keep lit. Has anyone experienced this?
I've seen a few offered by Greek Alexander with huge bowls. I wouldn't mind a large diameter pipe for certain mixes. But, If it's going to be a pain in the neck to smoke...
Here are a few of mine. Clockwise the biggun is a Mr. Brog Lumberjack, Rattray Chief, Rattray Butcher's Boy, Tsuge Blowfish, and a Chacom Army. The last three aren't big but in for comparison. I haven't tried the Lumberjack yet but there is a guy in my city that smokes one everyday, it would take a half a tin of Capstan to fill the beast.
I have a lovely giant Nording that I smoke in solitude, for a long, meditative smoke. It's the only giant I currently have, since I haven't encountered any more like it, nor am I likely to. It serves its purpose.
I think of you fondly every time I smoke it, Brad. But don't go having a heart attack or I'll have to stop posting pictures of it... Pipe porn can be perilous.
