Hi Folks, I'm having a bit of trouble with the Post Office. Some of my mail has been diverted to Denver rather than Minneapolis due to an error at scan-in upon arrival in the USA. A box with some very old tobacco-related books has been delivered to the wrong address in Denver instead of my house in Minneapolis.

I wanted to see if any of you live in or near the Denver Zip Code 80211 that would be willing to stop by the post office (address below) and deliver a printed message to one of the tellers explaining my situation.

Essentially I was told by me local PO that they (Sunnyside PO) need to identify the carrier that delivered my package, and have them return to the address and recover it. My request for anyone that lives nearby is that you print out a letter explaining this and containing my contact info so that they can recover my books. I have the direct phone number for the post office and (surprise) they never answer it. To the contrary, these matters seem to get cleared up very quickly when face-to-face contact is made.

Reward: TWO tins of Esoterica, take your pick, and shipping to your address.

SUNNYSIDE Post Office
1766 W 46TH AVE
DENVER, CO 80211-9998

Thanks for looking..

It turns out that the USPS is responsive to complaints so with a little pressure at the proper agencies that have oversight over individual post offices, the offending post office is now "on the case".

Why a postal worker would deliver a 14lb box of 125 year old books without a label to the wrong address several states west of their destination is a mystery that will likely never be solved.

If you don't fight at the USPS you will be swept under a bureaucratic rug in milliseconds.

Once upon a time the USPS was (rightfully) proud of their efficiency and single-mindedness of purpose.

Not so much these days. There are absolutely still some in their ranks who are hardass Old Schoolers, but they are no longer the rule.

The bitch of it is the cascading domino effect that complex, delicate systems are vulnerable to, together with being forced to lower their hiring standards to fill positions. (Anyone who lacks the capacity to be proud of being part of an essential service shouldn't work there as a categorical thing.)
