Of course, there also is the possibility that such a cake buildup is actually pipe smoking Nirvana, and that one could only get the maximum out of a blend with such a configuration. As we will never get there, or venture to try a pipe like that as it is, we may never know. Hmmmmm . . . :puffpipe:

I've seen pipes with less cake where the cake has cracked the bowl, just shows you how well made that pipe is.

They may not have cared much for cleaning it, but someone enjoyed that old pipe enough to use it a lot.
That's a good clue that it might be a great smoking tool and worth the effort to get it restored.
