Recommendations?

New to the pipe as of last month. I've sampled a dozen or so various tobaccos and the only one that I really enjoy is McLelland's "RSVP/Invitation" which I think is a black cavendish. Anything else really gives me a bad tongue bite (aromatics), or I find it bland (balkans, etc.).
So, I ordered some Lane Limited - RLP-6, as I read that it was what Invitation was based on & I don'r like the Lane Limited too much.
Can anyone make a suggestion based on my admiration of McClelland's?

Does anybody want to swap something for 2 ounces of Lane Limited - RLP-6?

Hi! and welcome to the forums. I'm not familiar with McClelland's RSVP/Invitation, so I can't recommend anything similar;

but many, if not most aromatics smokers seem to like 1-Q.
Actually, my first impression is that if you have sampled a dozen or so different blends in only your first month with a pipe,

then you're not giving any of them, or your tongue, a fair shot.

Not familiar with McClelland's RSVP/Invitation but a good beginner light aro I can recommend is Stokkebye B&B ( name stands for Black and Burley ). PM me your address and I'll send you a couple bowls.

First off welcome to the forums! Please familiarize yourself with the RULES As, not following them makes Lawrence a bit crabby, and he'll have to scream at you. Not pretty. :nana: :rofl:
Secondly, I've never heard anyone describe Balkans as bland.... LOL!
The above suggestion of picking up a sampler from P&C (pipesandcigars.com, one of the site sponsors... Just look to the left and scroll down a little) is a good one. Also, cortez makes a very valid point. One month is really just getting your feet wet. Believe me, I was where you are now a mere three years ago. It's exciting and new and you want enjoy everything that this hobby has to offer... The only problem is, pipes smoking is a journey, not a destination. It takes time to fully enjoy it. I'd start by really focussing on one or two blends. Figure out what you like about it. I never get rid of an blends. I know that my tastes will change, and I may someday appreciate that particular blend.
Also if you've burnt your tongue, the first culprit is usually smoking too fast. The second is improper packing technique. Once you find a method that works for you, you'll find it much more enjoyable. Hope this helps!
