...and I'm surprised viewing your 1938 Shamrock 999. It has the twin slot lacking in the 1942 and the one from my friend. I tought the slotted shape evolved from the round one...

Erardo and Jim. Read the discription of the 999 in the ad. It says, "Just arrived from abroad..." In 1942, all of Europe was involved in the war so that would eliminate those countries. Could it be "abroad" was really the USA? Wally Frank? William DeMuth? Are we having fun? Will Tom marry June? Will The Shadow ever not catch the bad guy?

Tune in tomorrow, same time, same station.
Enough silliness. The orginal question on this thread was about a pipe being a real Peterson. We didn't think it was because of the gap in the stem/shank junction and the rounded surfaces there. Well, There is a London made Laxiom on E-bay right now that has the same rounded surfaces.
God, I love Peterson's!

Chuck thank you for that contribution. If I could be pedantic,as is my want!!

Historical note** Ireland and several other countries in Europe were not involved in the War at that time, they were neutral.

I know I am a pain in the butt!!

That one (pedantic) sent me to the dictionary. Wait a minute, I've got to get this pipe going.

Ok, I'm ready now.
You are absoultly right Jim and I shouldn't have been so general in my comment. My point was the pipe in question was made abroad and therfore not up to Peterson's specifications, just as some of todays oddly shaped "made for Peterson's Ltd." pipes are obviously made abroad. That may explain why there are no rings on the pipe. the pipe shown in Erardo's photograph is also an entry level Shamrock which may also help explain the lack of rings. Perhaps it was made without the rings to distinguish it from higher grades.
This is, of course, all speculation on my part. Who knows? One thing I have learned from this thread is there is a very remote chance I may be able to get a birthyear Peterson. Hope springs eternal!

Nice one Chuck and I think the answer to the original thread question has been found, albeit after the pipe has been bought. And blow me down, there is that odd looking stem to shank bevel along with the 'Great Britain' stamp. Some good detective work.
