I’d definitely send it back. I have a Joy meer lined which has been fantastic for a short smoke. Hope it gets sorted out for you.

Yes. Distributors is different than the company manufacturing the pipes. Kopp only manufacturers the tobacco blends for Rattray's.
Yup you're right; good distinction. Are these kinds of things taken to the manufacturer rather than the distributor? I have no idea how supply chain stuff works.

I'm going to ship it back tomorrow. Smoking Pipes Europe said they have already pulled another one to set aside for me to ship out once they get this one. It really is a shame.

I have been happy with the SP Europe response so far. I will update as things transpire.
I following your lead and I have emailed Smoking Pipes US.
While the bowl of mine hasn't blemished as much as yours, I am not happy with it or the logo missing off the stem.

In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
Butz Choquin maybe or even overseas and finished in France who knows and who even cares, I'd get a refund never to be reminded. Savinelli is still a good old world shop, go w them
and yet a few of their pipes have shown up here (Savinelli) with similar issues. Not often but even great makers send out a few duds. The question for me is more if it keeps happening. Rattray is an odd one for this though because they don't make pipes but have others make them. My pipe from them is great and clearly French made based on certain tells.

I really like that satin green bowl on the Yule pipe. I know the lacquer has started bubbling and flaking, but part of my rotten brain still says strip it and wax it.
I have really considered that option but as I pulled it out of the box today I noticed two more areas on the bowl where the lacquer had bubbled. I have packed it up and will be shipping it back tomorrow. I don't think there is any chance of getting it replaced by smokingpipe.com as the email from them said they could issue a store credit or credit card credit.

It's a shame because I really liked the look of the pipe and the two times I smoked it, it really smoked well.

The smooth Yule Pipe was boxed up and shipped back to smokingpipes in South Carolina. Then I just have to wait for the refund or store credit.

In the meantime, I have ordered a new Rattray's Yule Pipe from smokingpipes.eu so I have a questions to anyone else that has ordered a pipe from them to be shipped to the US.

How long did it take for your shipment to arrive?
While the shipping label was created, until the carrier actually has the package in hand they can't provide an expected delivery date.

I admit that I am impatient when it comes to ordering something on line and will find myself checking the tracking two or three times a day.

I have realized that I'm more frustrated by tracking a package from smokingpipes.eu than I am with tracking packages shipped via USPS.
