Question about finishing a bowl....

Actually we dont have a proper B&M here red... I live down to road from you in Upland, Davids Gift and Tobacco has a few blends and even more tins now that she started stocking up... but in the end the last B&M was in Claremont and he closed down probably about 10-12 years ago.
oh and Davids doesnt have McClelland bulks or tins for that matter :/

And cap, since you know the place I'm talking about have you tried their tobacco? What is the difference between theirs and the tinned stuff. Besides almost triple the price!!

When tobacco burns there is always a little moisture at the bottom. The nature of aromatics because of there syrups and casings will always burn wet as compared for instnce with an English blend that will smoke considerably dryer than an aromatic since these English blends usually have no casings and syrups.
Try loading your blend using the old thirds technique. Heel of bowl semi firm, second third of the bowl a little looser and finally, the top third loose. Then tamp the top of the bowl lightly before your charring light.
Another, factor may be that your draft hole in your pipe(s) may br too restricted therefore causing a wetter smoke. You may consider going to a professional pipe repairer and have your pipe(s) opened up.
Finally, if your draft hole is not in the center and at the very bottom of your pipe bowl it will cause wetness at the bottom with any tobacco type. Good pipe engineering is critical.

Yes... there are a couple of blends that I pick up from them... their bulk PS Luxury Bullseye Flake as well as the bulk PS Proper English (even though they are in in pre packaged bags of 3oz they are still considered bulk.)

I also will pick up some Penzance when they have it as well as a tin here and there (usually Nightcap or EMP) but she is starting to have a nice variety including Butera, Wessex, Dunhill, Samuel Gawith and several others.

I have heard night cap many many times on this site. That and 1Q are on my small list of want to try's

I notice that the more topped an aro is the more likely it is to not smoke to the bottom properly.

Or even if you did, you wouldn't want to as it will taste like ammonia garbage.

One way to fix that is to let your aros dry out a bit before you smoke them.

Redbeard... Davids stocks Nightcap... she had about 5 tins as of last Saturday.
Nightcap is one of my favorite all day tobacco's... if you want, why not hold out until we have a chance to meet up and I'll kick ya down with a sample.. make sure you like it before spending your money.

Another thing to try would be the "air pocket" method of packing your bowl. Might be worth experimenting with... I know when I was starting out, it helped to try this method versus struggle with the right puffing pace using other packing methods.

More questions than answers... But, pack the bottom (first pinch or two) a little less tight than the upper bowl. There is no rule that you must smoke the dottle remainder. When it gets to that point and goes out, I am satisfied and the pipe is finished.

Not all of the wet is coming from your tobacco. Condensation comes from the burning of moisture in the air, too.
I gave up on trying to dry my tobacco, and now just clean the draft hole out a couple of times during my smoke with a non-bristled pipe cleaner.

Draft hole drilled too high could create this kind of problem too.

Fix by raising the bottom of the bowl with pipe mud.

How far from the bottom should the hole be? I got a pretty good smoke out of it today.

Of course, you could find yourself a Bianchino upside-down pipe.

I dried it for about an hour and a half and my jar is bad so it is dried out a little already :x switched to a new jar needless to say.
But I noticed a little passed halfway through I heard crackling....possibly me not keeping my mouth completely dry?
