A "piper" is a person who plays the bagpipes. If you smoke a pipe, you are a "pipe smoker", not a "piper".

When you smoke your pipe, you are not "piping", you are "smoking a pipe", "pipe smoking", or "lunting", which is a useful English word that means smoking whilst walking — and/or — walking whilst smoking. "Piping" means to speak in a shrill voice. "Puffing" is an acceptable term used to denote the action of smoking a tobacco pipe.

It's also a type of cake decoration and textile edging.

Brother, you never stop to impress me! For the record……my 2 favorite instruments are ones most people can’t or won’t listen to as stand alone. But man, give me some pipes or a banjo tune and I’m a happy man!
