AWESOME post, thanks for the review and for sharing your wonderful experience! It really is a very professional and in depth write up with some detailed pictures. Very happy for you with the pipes you acquired (there is equal part jealousy with the happiness, lol) and i know you will enjoy a plethora of fantastic smokes from each of them. I especially like that Rad-ical Rad-iant Rad, that one is a stunner!

I wonder if this scene played out much like it did for our own John Candy:
Peck
One of my all time favorite movies. Under rated, IMHO.
I'm sure that's what happened in their room

Thank you so much for the write-up and the photos! As a Chicago native, I'm bummed that I still haven't made it out to the show. But understandably so, as I have final exams to prepare for.I hope to make it out there next year!

Peck, did you have a camera in our room? Pat is very cuddly and hairy, much like a reddy bear. And yes his "pillows" are quite soft!

Awesome writeup. Captures the many reasons why Chicago is the highlight of the year for pipers who make it!

So glad you are enjoying that Canadian too!

Great pics, would like to hit a show. Did you see any Globe Stands for sale?
I wasn't looking for them, so didn't see them. One thing to consider is that the show is so huge you really have to be consciously looking for stuff to find it. While we walked every aisle methodically, I know that there were some vendors and items which I skimmed or missed entirely because they were selling items that weren't on my list (like stands) or because I was distracted by a search for something in particular.
Thanks for all the kind words on the write-up, gang. It was fun to do, and is a great way to log my memories of the trip.
I can't wait to hear Brian/Pat's version!

I've been home two days now, and I continue to cogitate on the experience. There are a few things I'd do differently.
Next year I plan to...

- arrive no later than Thursday

- write a list of the things I am looking for

- buy a US roaming package

- transfer my spending $$ from my PayPal to my bank account and withdraw cash

- schedule a forum meet-up in advance of arriving

- have a table during the pre-show

All I can say is WOW. I saw this posted yesterday and realized there were about 30+ responses so I knew it was a good thread. I wanted to wait until I could sit down with a full bowl and read the whole thing, taking in the pics and the experience.
I must say that Johnny Large Tin's writing made me feel that I was there among friends and gentlemen. I applaud you for taking the time to give us a chronological breakdown of the events, the people you met, the experiences you had, and the lack of American fortitude for the cold, not to mention all of the spoils of your journey. I also appreciate the photos. I am sure there are many more than what you have posted and I look forward to seeing more of them.
I am glad that you and Fluffy Time had a great experience. I hope I can join you all next year.
