woodsroad, what a visual statement! "Do you have Prince Albert in the can?"

A lot of times it is the only pipe tobacco I see in my local drugstores. It was all my Uncle smoked...he was my influence into pipes.

I'm under the impression that hardly any newer generation pipe smoker has much of interest in those old timey blends, they aren't enough interesting and sophisticated to contemporary pipe smoker tastes.
As a 33yr old I can say personally that I had A pouch of it a while back and NEVER revisited it. The OTC blends are just too bland for me. Once I got into Escudo, Luxury Bullseye Flake, HH Pure Virginia I didn't really see much of a reason to revisit Prince Albert or Carter Hall.

Personally ive never understood the OTC blend thing in the modern era. I know a handful of people that are dedicated smokers of one of those blends. Is it general ignorance of the wider world of pipe Tobacco, or for that matter a lack of interest? Maybe they just want to be able to go to the store, grab a can and go home. No worries about out of stock blends, no hoarding or excess spending. Or perhaps it's the simplicity itself. The mildness and consistency, something better than cigarettes but not something you want to smoke excessively. I'm sure there are many reasons, but personally none of them fit for me. There's nothing I love more than plunging headfirst into the unknown and firing up a bowl of some new tobacco, and rotating through my growing list of favorites, and especially popping the seal on a fine aged blend and having the rush of organic gases meet my nostrils in an explosion of aroma. No OTC blend can give me those things. The closest thing Ive come to an OTC blend is 7 seas regular which is an occasional smoke for me and one I do enjoy quite a bit when I'm not in need of nicotine.

I would take them over most of today's offerings. Seems like blenders are just trying too hard now.

If you saw the quantity and diversity of my cellar, I doubt you'd even ponder that question. That reminds me, anyone want to trade any of that McClelland crap for some PA?

No worries here. I bought Prince Albert once and thought it was the worst tobacco I've ever smoked. I tried to smoke it, but after about 5 bowls I couldn't do it. It was terrible. I could never figure out why it stuck around for so long.

Embers,
I also enjoy them and I find both superior in every way to the terrible Prince Albert.
Cheers,
Chili

Metalhead, its amazing how that works. For me Old Dark Fired is like smoking manure. It's a chemistry thing. PA is ab okay, I can smoke it without thinking blend.
But in my uneducated opinion, there are far worse.

"...the terrible Prince Albert."
Prince Albert was terrible. I like to smoke it in an Oom Paul while looking at old maps of Rhodesia, rubbing my hands and cackling maniacally.
