I am working on my first tin of Presbyterian. It is much different than I expected. I was expecting primarily a Virginia-Oriental blend, considering there was supposedly some controversy over whether it even had Latakia. Which I find strange because there is plenty of Latakia in the tin aroma, and in the flavor, and well.... Just look at it!

Unless.... Some of that black leaf is unlisted Cavendish. Which wouldn't surprise me, because boy, is this stuff sweet. Definitely some added sweetness going on.

Anyway, it probably sounds like I am bagging on this blend and I don't mean to, because it's pretty good. Just more of a sweet English/Latakia blend than I expected.

I love the stuff, and even though I’m mostly into the lighter, Va end of the flavour spectrum at the moment, it’s the one “English” I’ll still reach for when searching for novelty.
Given it originated with a Scot, and it bears the name of the pre-emminate religion there, I always thought of it as a Scottish mixture, so some of those black bits above must be cavendished tobacco.

I opened an older tin this week. It was recommended to me as a Virginia/oriental blend. I remembered it correctly as more of a mild English.

What I’m looking for is something closer to how Watch City Voriental is described - esp with red Virginia’s. Never tried that one.

I have been smoking a mix of Sutliff matured and stoved Virginia’s lately. I started playing with mixing my reds and Presbyterian and ended up at 2/3rds VA to 1/3rd Pres. so a good red Va with orientals at a condiment level. It adds some complexity to a simple red Va blend.

I am happy with it, but would buy tins of something like this, if it exists.
