Dear all,

this is my first post here. I'm not a smoker (yet) so i guess nothing to write about myself in the introductory thread..

but I'd love to identify my grandfathers pipe as well as have it professionally restored.

He was born in 1916, never regularly smoked but I remember him mentioning that as a young man it was a must to have a pipe when going to cafe or club with friends those days. So this one was his 'social ticket'. He used the pipe in late 1930s in then Czechoslovakia so probably a Continental European origin.

Apart from Bruyère Garantie it says Ba*y. Something like Baby or Baky.. Had no luck with Google, Chat GPT says there was a Baky brand but I'm not convinced. It is smaller (14cm / 5.5in), slim pipe that I want to occasionally use once it is restored (broken tenon).

Thank you for any remarks or suggestions.

All the best,
Michal

A French pipe is all I can tell. We would need better picture than you supplied us with. Did you try pipedia.org or pipephil.eu??

Thanks for all reactions.

I've tried pipedia - french manufactururs, nothing there, now I checked pipephil, nothing on Ba*y either.
Thanks for pointing out it's French, I had an impression that Bruyère Garantie was sometimes used on non-French pipes also.

Concerning photos - I'm afraid this is all I can do in the macro department at this point. Stamping is quite shallow, I couldn't pull more contrast with any other lighting.

It was. Plenty of German made pipes also have bruyere garantie stamped on them.

Thank you for suggestions.
Interesting to know that stem might not be original. I wonder what shape and length it was then.
This one has an aluminium spiral cooler in it.

Thanks for the tip. I've just tried hard on BPK but couldn't find any vintage one with the handwritten font that is on this one. Neither did I have luck searching for this bowl shape in general, across older European manufacturers.

Yes, it looks it's called a pot then. So I might rename the thread to Identify the pubescent panelled potty proto-billiard briar.
In the end, it is probably called Baby anyway. I just gave it a good look in the sunlight and i can see the faintest upper loop in the third letter that overall looks like 'b'. So.. anyone seen a pipe named just Baby ? ))
