Not to repeat myself, but I suggest, keep it simple for starters, traditional shape, new pipe or estate from a retailer with a sterling reputation, medium size. You want to focus on getting the hang of pipe smoking, technique as they say, and not be catering to the pipe any more than necessary to do that. Go more high end if you like, but I'd wait to learn more about pipes before getting extra expensive, if ever.
