I don't get why all the defensive backlash against my remarks. I totally understand the zen of fountain pens. In fact, just this morning I drew water from the well, stopped by the outhouse for a sitdown, and then churned some butter and pounded some millet for breakfast. Now I'm headed down to the creek for a bath, after which I'll hook the team up to my wagon and head to the office. I do feel a little under the weather, so probably later on I'll stop by the doc for a little bloodletting. Modern technology. Pshaw!

shutterbugg, I don't know if you're talking about my posts, but I was actually defending myself against Nate's remarks. Edit: And now I think he was actually kidding.

It doesn't matter to me if you like fountain pens or not. What matters to me is allowing other people their preferences without belittling them in the same breath. I'm learning from this and other threads that that's your "thing" though, so I'll let it be.

I also greatly prefer French press coffee to drip. Not because I buck the technology, but I just think a press makes the best cup of coffee available to me at home.
I don't particularly care which one came first in a string of innovations. I choose the one I prefer.
I have the most expensive and powerful smart phone on the market. Not the action of a luddite, that's for sure! :)

So, you have an iPhone 6S+! Cool. Me too. I agree, French Press trumps drip, but my Quickmill makes an awesome espresso and cappuccino.
As for pens, I don't have a major preference as I don't write much except on a keyboard. When I was in business and traveling a lot, I loved the Cross pens because they were small (and flashy in an understated way!). I dabbled in calligraphy but never got good. Still have a bottle of Pelican and some nibs somewhere.
Gordebak- Those who've been here a while knew Nate was t.i.c.

First I thought Nate was joking, but I think some people reacted and that was when I thought he might be serious.

I hate to open this can of worms, but the iPhone barely makes the top 5.. 8)
I only drink espresso in the form of Americano, so I can't justify a whole separate apparatus for that (yet). Too much money spent on pens and pipes. If I bought an espresso machine on top of all that, I'd be drinking fancy coffee in my brand new Batchelor pad for sure.

jpmcwjr, I love Pelican 4001 Brilliant Black. It's my favorite black with just a hint of dark blue. Dip pens are great for drawing, they say, but I couldn't get the hang of them. But I know that most cartoon and comic drawers in Turkey use Brause dip pens and india ink. At least it was so short time ago, I don't know how it is now.

As to whether or not Nate was kidding or not, I won't speak, but what I will say is that that dude's a total knob.

Nate, don't be hard on yourself. You actually made that post in italics, and I thought you were kidding. Some reaction made me think you were serious. It's my fault actually.

Awhile back I decided that in order to convey sarcasm I'd use italics, since I wasn't using it for anything else. The flaw in my plan was that nobody else knows this which sorta renders it moot ;)

Well, here comes another week of 150+ posts that will include civility, humor, animosity and knotted shorts. :) I'm not going to step on that proverbial third rail. Religious and political discussions can be tamer!

Did you people know that touchscreens were invented in the 70s, and there were tablets with touchscreens in the 80s?

The expansive marketing campaign leads me to believe I have been invited since the beginning.
I kid, of course. If I had arbitrarily started down the iPhone path all those years ago instead of the Android one, I'd probably be just as steadfast in my opinion of their products.

And today the mailman brought me a Noodlers Konrad fountain pen (a real beauty,) a bottle of Noodlers Napalm (red) ink, and a Clairefontaine pocket notebook. Not expensive, mind you, but very serviceable. Oh--and if you like the color purple, check out Goldspot's Weekly Dip Special. Very nice, and very affordable. And while you're at it, check out the specials being offered on Goulet's website.

Those Noodlers pens are fun. I may have gotten a bad batch or maybe was writing on inappropriate paper, but Dragon's Napalm looks way too pink for my taste. At minimum, it wasn't what I was expecting. Their inks are indispensable in a collection, though.
