BTW, threatening with the big guns : He's grown. If this is all it takes to make him run, he needs to thank God he never fired up Deathmetal, Jesse, Warren, or Jeff.

Oh for craps sake! Let's not turn this thread into a crap flinging fest! I myself could say a few things as could a few others, and I really kind of want to, but I'm showing great restraint in not doing so, about another certain website. So let's just drop the BS.

David, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, especially as you've already done it all, seen it all and commanded the notice of the FBI. We obviously are small potatoes, and I can't for the life of me understand why you bothered with us at all.

It's not presumptuous at all. If I didn't want to leave that door open I wouldn't have posted my email address here. I'm never too busy to help
THank you Russ. It is that lag between in stock and out of stock that seems to be the issue in my case. Ill email you about a possible solution. :puffy:

OK, I gotta unload a couple of my peeves here. I don't live in the US, so I have my orders sent to an international shipping service in Miami, to be air forwarded to me here. So even though I qualify for P&C's free shipping, I still need to pay for the forwarding, which charges for both weight and volume. Once I received a box practically big enough to hold a dishwasher, inside was a few pounds of tobacco and a whole bunch of air balloons. If packed in a normal sized box my shipping charge would have been about $8.00, but the surcharge for volume was $50.00!
Another time I wanted to place an order for some things that were in stock, other things were on back order. No problem, I was not in a hurry. I asked the customer service rep to hold the shipment until everything could be shipped in one package, to save me the second forwarding cost. I was told that this could not be done, so I cancelled part of the order.

Salted Plug, you misread the intention of that post. It was simply to say I had been in all types of forums. I did not care to engage in that stuff here. Yet it happens when I say something as simple as there is a cheaper price elsewhere.
I can't let the door hit me in the ass on the way out. I can't find out how to deactivate myself.
Isn't it time for the Magnificent Seven to come riding in, criticizing my spelling and lack of esteem for Rule #9?
All of you whiz bangs besides ken, don't even get what I am getting at.
And though I would love to say something sure to get me booted I won't. I simply ask to be booted.

Panama: Thank you for keeping your post germane to the real theme of the post.
Sorry that stuff happened. Your situation with regards to getting stuff shipped is even worse than mine. I don't feel so bad now.

My experiences with P&C have always left me satisfied. Recently I ordered some out of stock tobacco that was on sale, and when it came back in stock it was shipped to me next day air. As a matter of fact since I live in Oregon the out of stock items showed up only two days after the in stock items came to my home.

Where in Oregon? If you are near Portland we should meet up and smoke sometime. :)
The only (really small) problems I ever had with P&C ended when they improved packing techniques. Now I just have to drive down into Oregon to get my orders. Not a P&C issue, a WA is dumb issue.

I can't think of a more important software task than maintaining inventory such that a customer cannot order what is not in hand. smokingpipes has it, and I believe 4noggins as well. At one point I was dreaming big buying tobacco, and I approached pipesandcigars about 19 pounds of Dark Flake. They said sure. I was to get 2 or 3 pounds knowing that the other ~16 would be shipped when it came in. I would be charged at that time. Although I wasn't charged for the virtual, business was staged in two parts.
Can you think of a process more doomed to fail? There are problems when the merchandise is in store. They multiply when the balance of the order is filled in future. It's asking for problems.
pipesandcigars bashing/whining/complaining almost always is represented in a thread on the forum. I don't order from them even though that means missing out on RO's blends.

I like P&C. The only time I had a problem (during their big software upgrade/mess) I called and a very helpful customer service rep took care of everything and got my order sent out.

No doubt. But this gets complicated when you have a larger warehouse. You want guys at the loading dock scanning in UPCs and having the software automatically update; then you want someone finishing out the pull orders by scanning and subtracting. Most importantly, you probably want these systems isolated from your web presence. The only reliable way to do that is have some sort of internal communications format which is sent between the systems, and then updated via script every few hours, if not manually entered for a true zero interchange format. (An attacker, if they were able to sabotage your inventory database, could shut you down, and so this is a target for extortion attacks). Since the method of exchange is cumbersome, it probably only happens a few times a day to avoid making many small changes.
The only really good intermediate solution is to have the guys in the warehouse update the web site directly, which is what smaller vendors do.

Bottom line: I am sixty and ran some of the most notorious forums on the Net, some not here anymore thanks to the FBI. I've heard it all, seen it all, said it all, been called it all. I just have no want to play the shitting little games of the nugatory coprolite
Kim Dotcom? Is that you?

Kim Dotcom was a hero. Megaupload.com, during its glory days, was the best place to get lots of interesting stuff.

You guys are absolute shit in reading what the person is saying. A bunch of pedantic babies that think their 2 cents of ether don't stink.
Not one of you can understand I was not trying to complain... but fuck it.
As to being Kim Dot Com, he has shit on me. Been on the net longer than he has been alive

This one is officially off the rails...some good feedback from Russ in answer to some legitimate concerns...but it’s time to close it down...
