Sheesh, we got the TAD, PAD, and now the MAD! LOL :ROFLMAO:

The MAD almost hit me and I was about to pull trigger for 12 issues of PipeLovers 1949.

P.S. Maybe someone sell me 1 issue for a Finding it Fee... ;)

I have to admit that when I read certain pipe-related copy from yesteryear, like Pipe Lovers Magazine, the American version of Tobacco World, and the Wally Frank catalogs, I get the distinct impression that if the American pipe smoker of the day wanted to learn about, sample and purchase pipes and tobacco that were outside the "sphere" of the commonplace and readily available, he'd have to go to some considerable effort.

Clearly many of these periodicals are simply advertising disguised as a magazine so it's understandable that the information they provide is somewhat narrow in scope. The readership are kept entertained pondering the differences between 'honey cavendish' and 'wine cavendish,' and the kooky 'pipe collectors' on the fringe collect opium pipes, pipes from the 'old country' (Germany), and oddball shapes.

If a guy wanted to buy a BBB pipe and a cutter-top of Dunhill tobacco in 1947, I wonder how far from Smalltown USA he'd have to go to get it. Or even hear about it.

I'm waiting to read the ad from these mags which is written in the slang-of-the-day; such as:

"When out on a stroll, and headed-out to see the dames, and, that one hot tomato - the one with the great gams, the bubble-dancer at the Burly-Q - You'll say: "twenty-three-skidoo!", when you plug a Melmark Pipe into you mug... Why? Because the bright-boys know: "Melmark Pipe Company; make the heaters that smoke sweeter!"

These are a blast, thanks for posting.
Readers might like to know about Keen's, mentioned in the March 1947 issue: it is still there, same location, and still has lots of pipes up in the ceiling. Alas, the pipes are only nowadays for decoration. Fun is that their books of matches feature a churchwarden. Also fun is their legendary massive pork chop! (Not fun is the bill for the legendary pork chop.)
