While i can appreciate a bunch of FOGs discussing a list and curating it as needed, it is a fun idea, but might as well call it the YMMV list for the general population. Sadly it’s like asking some of my cigar brothers their all time favorite cigar and knowing there’s like 2 boxes of them left in existence, doesn’t do broke ass me much good or have an effect on what I’m smok8ng or i should say what i have access to smoke. I’ve heard great th8ngs about the “old” Wessex Dark Flake … thrilling, great, wonderful, problem is Harris owns it all (exaggeration for effect). 😂.
AJL, I am a lowly piker compared to peck when it comes to stocking blends. I would not be surprised if he had over 350 Brigade Campaign Dark Flake. I stopped at 215 tins and I have been smoking it consistently since 2012.

I would also bet anyone who thinks they have more MC Clellend than peck. He could have easily over 400 tins.=. I say we hire a team of mercenaries and rob Peck blind, It is the least we could do for such a douchebag. Hell he would write it off and make a fortune....yeah got to love a good Shyster.

My cellar consists of nothing but MY gold standard blends. I don't care too much for the list that was compiled.

I did my own testing before I bought anything and used Tobacco reviews as a guide back in the day when there were a lot of reviewers whose tastes were similar to mine.
Care to share your must haves ? It’s always interesting as there might be some similar tastes and new discoveries. I have smoked many of the gold standards but of course have my own gold standards.

I tend to favor Samuel Gawith , and Solani for my Gold Standards , regardless of blend …

If Harris doesn't reply, he's posted a list several times over in various threads (including recently, but I can't remember the thread titles).

Thanks for all the input. I was interested as a starting point, the way a person might seek to “read the classics” so to speak. I found the list you’ve all been referring to on that other site.

On the tobacco reviews website I’ve also read many reviews by our own Jim (so prolific) and found you can even sort his reviews to see the four star ratings, so I’ve added some of those to my wish list. Particularly the GL Pease blends, I find that I have good luck with them so far.

I have plenty of Carolina Red Flake and Plum Pudding for now, which I intend to make two of my staples. 965 is to my liking as well.

I've seen some discussion on product descriptions and old reviews that there was something called the "Pipe Tobacco Hall of Fame", which I can't find any information on.

Does anyone know what it is or was? Anyone have a list of those tobaccos which are inductees?
I just did a search for it and found this thread. I distinctly remember Presbyterian mixture being on the list, along with Carter Hall, Three Nuns... its the others I was trying to remember. Pretty sure MyMixture 965 was on there, too.

this has been floating around a few blends have been changed since this, but it's a pretty good list, easier to find benchmarks for most genres

That list was very helpful to me, in trying things in different genres. A sampler of those blends should help you head in the direction of something you like.
