If I could smoke indoors, I would likely buy one of those good air filters and puff away, but outdoors it is. I think about it a lot, but at the same time I don't like being either cold or sweating my shorts damp. I went out last night to smoke a bowl and about 5 minutes in decided that I'd rather be warm than smoking.

On the "cool" factor, I just bought a flat cap. My cool points rose 37%. I think pipes should come with matching flat caps.

Great thread. I love nicotine and coffee. Two vices. I only smoke outside, and with the truck window down. Maybe two bowls a week. as one can see from the threads this is completely an individual thing.

I think sometimes I get more enjoyment of restoring a pipe more than the actual smoking. I have too many pipes.

when I need a little nicotine inside I’ll chew a nicorett. .

A word on safety. 40 years ago I saw more doctors smoke pipes. Doctors always had pipes. Then I knew there was something to that. I don’t inhale ever.

Moderate nicotine consumption has some health benefits as it stimulates the brain. Of course, smoking is not good for you. You have to weigh the pros and the cons. For me, a pipe helps me relax and chill out. I otherwise wouldn’t take time for myself. I solve many problems in my life with a pipe. I also meditate and it reduces stress and anxiety, which is healthy. I also get out in nature, which has been prescribed for me - it’s important and helpful. So I would say just be cautious about how much you are smoking. Smoking a pipe or two a day is reasonable in my estimation. I’m not a doctor but I have friends that are and I have discussed it with my doctor, and they think my approach is reasonable. Pipe smoking also helps me to stay away from alcohol, which is also a very good thing. Instead of looking forward to a glass or two of wine at the end of the day, I look forward to my pipe.
Thank you very much this hit the nail on the head for me, much appreciated

I thought all pipes came with flat caps? Mine all have. Someone from this forum also showed up at my house and confiscated all of my razors so that I was forced to grow facial hair.

Yeah I'd say if you are willing to accept the other health risks of tobacco then nicotine addiction should be the least of your worries. The chemical nicotine is generally considered to be about as useful/harmful as caffeine (there are benefits and detriments to every single thing in life, all drugs included). And generally much smaller amounts are absorbed without inhaling.

Now, you can be either very tolerant of its effects or not.. also you can be very easily able to be addicted to them or not. To me cigarettes were never a big thing. I could smoke half a pack a day for a week then stop and not touch one again for 3 months and not blink an eye.

It's all individual factors but I'd say that out of all the things considered when it comes to pipe smoking, nicotine addiction is one of the least things to be concerned about for the vast majority of people.

For me, I will just assume that I have an addiction. And, I'm fine with that. It causes no other problem in my life that worries me. There may be functional alcoholics among us that only have a drink every now and then. So, for me, I have a nicotine addiction, but I would not say that I have a nicotine problem. end of story. your opinions on me matter not.

But, it's not my place to tell everyone else that they are an addict... unless their problem impedes on my problems
Everything you said was great, but especially this bit.

That highlights the other aspect of how you even define addiction. There are both physical and psychological/spiritual components to all addictions/habits.

That's why the definition of addiction (in the generally negative connotation most people usually use it for) that always satisfied me the most is "An action that you know is harming some aspect(s) of your life, health, or relationships but that you continue to engage in regardless."

So by that metric you can debate til the cows come home but as long as it's not causing any immediate harm and you've made your peace with any potential longterm harm that could arise... well then... that's just about that. Haha

Nicotine addiction is a minor annoyance in tobacco. Shouldn't even merit consideration in the decision. It's the carcinogens released by the tobacco when set afire to worry about. Nicotine displaces oxygen in the blood. Bad? Sure but, the brain loves it, everybody's brain whether they notice or not. Or, whether the smoker admits. If you smoke only a bowl a week say, and you find yourself looking forward to the Saturday bowl more eagerly as the week goes buy ... Well, figure it out.

I revel in my nicotine, readily admit to the addiction and, can easily afford the addiction,

I smoked cigarettes for 15 yrs and finally quit for 8 yrs before I picked up a pipe. I really enjoy both pipes and cigars.

Well, I do own a replica Sean Thornton flat cap, but I am proudly clean-shaven, so I guess I don't have enough posts here yet to warrant a visit from the KGBeard.

It was pretty serious. They handed me vintage straight razors with kits and about half of them had sunglasses on with blue jackets that said “LIFER” on the back in yellow letters. They also forced me to drink 2 IPAs. It was awful.
