Somewhere on this site, someone posted a quote from a major seller/maker, I don't recall which, that the best selling pipes were straight billiards first followed by bent billiards second and in sizes ranging around 17-22mm x 38-45mm or anywhwere in that range. Tastes and preferences change over time once you decide what you prefer. I have several good pipes but I now prefer large bowl bents with between 18-20mmx40-55mm size range.

I default aesthetically to classic English shapes (possibly for nostalgic reasons) -- billiards, dublins, canadians, apples, bulldogs, etc.
I also really like classic (subtle, organic) Danish takes on bent tulips, brandies, etc.
I also like Danish freehands.
I like Danish free hands too. I visited Larson and Ann Julie in Compenhagen and admire the fine workmanship and great designs of their work. In fact the most perfect straight grain (and expensive) pipe I ever owned was Danish. The problem is, I've never tried one I thought smoked worth a damn. puffy

I used to love classic English pipe shapes (hence my moniker). I still like them but have gravitated towards Castello's versions of classic shapes plus wasps, spheres, brandies and squashed tomatoes from a handful of artisans.

I have more Billiard 's and Dublin's than any of the other shapes.
I am strictly a classic lover and my other favorites are as follows:

Billiards
Dublin
Rhodesians
Apples
Lovats
Bull Dogs
Brandy

Then I see this list now and it isn't much different than what it was 20 plus years ago when I started. What can I say, cool never goes of style. I should add a have some bent 1.8-1/4 but more straight. I don't think I own a full bend any more.

I'm partial to traditional shapes, but I also enjoy Danish styles excepting the more avant-garde freehands. More specifically, I like shapes that are round, plump, and proportion and balance well to a bent stem. As such, I'm partial to billiard, tomato, apple, and brandys. I also have an outsized soft-spot for pokers, despite them being much different than my normal preference.

I am partial to bent billiards myself. More the half bent range but have my eye on a full bent.
