I noticed there is an absence of outright political discussion on the forum . Good .
Being new , I am wondering is there some gentleman’s agreement , an unspoken law to not go there ?
Given the political upheaval in the daily news , its impressive to see posters holding their tongue so well and eloquently .

See Forum Rule 6,
"Political Posts Not Allowed
6. We want to keep it friendly and fun around here. Political threads make it nearly impossible to maintain that type of atmosphere, so they are forbidden ... (unless they have to do with tobacco policies and legislation)."

People too dumb, or too narcissistic, to take the hint eventually get put in the cornfield, from whence they are never heard of again.
The posts get erased.
There's nothing more certain to kill a forum than political discussion. It's been tried many times and it never works. I even helped underwrite a pipe forum where we allowed political discussion in a "closed to the public" sub forum. To be able to see it you had to sign up for it. Just an unmitigated disaster. The bad behavior eventually spread out into the public sections of the forum like shit from a broken sewer main. So I had to pull my financial support, as did several others, and the forum closed down.

I place tremendous value on the lack of political discourse on Forums. I value it as much as the pipe and tobacco discussion, and general discussions we have. Political discourse right now is diseased, and nowhere worse than online. Long live Forums and a community without the current psychopathology of what passes for political discourse today.

I rarely post. I read and enjoy often. I would do neither if this space contained political bickering. Thanks to everyone for keeping this space free of politics!

Amen bobpnm. There aren't too many places to go anymore that haven't been infected with politics. This forum is an oasis and I don't even want to smell a whiff of politics.

I, too am happy not to discuss politics in this cozy, smokey, fireside chair corner of the internet. However, I am a little curious about our collective, presumed demographic, based on what other podcasts get recommended to me by the app I listen to the PM radio show on.
Not so curious that I'd ruin the mood surveying you all, of course. It's just a little funny to me.

I used to work at, and frequent when I had a night off, an old bar. Everything was old and soaked in decades of too much alcohol, including the clientele. Only rules were: No politics, no religion, no discussing other guests wives. It was very civilized in a very decadent way. Like this forum.

Poitics are the quickest way to drive me away from a forum or any other place on the internet

Politics today kills conversation, the art, the process, the human connection. Horrible though that is.

In all honesty, the reason I enjoy reading post here is because it keeps me away from the negative political climate. My psyche thanks you all. I’m in a much better mood. My wife, family and friendstherefore thanks you too.

I really dislike political discussions and I would never have joined this site if they had them on a regular basis. The mods here are real good about pulling threads and posts when they see them.
