Upon clicking on this thread, I was reminded of the sometimes strange word choices in pipe tobacco reviews. And upon consideration, I believe that most reviewers of tobaccos would never say "upon opening the tin" or "upon lighting" or "upon inspecting the strands of tobacco" unless they were writing it in a review, when suddenly the tone becomes scientifically objective.

Here's what I do with good results. Set a Bic to a low flame. Clench pipe, one hand on steering wheel other hand holds lighter. When lit, hold one half inch above pipe, sideways. Draw the flame down, but keep the lighter elevated. A finger or two on the pipe keeps the right distance and your eyes on the road. Maybe practice a couple of times on dry land, 0 mph....

My pipe pet peeve is living in this communists peoples republic of Washington. Were you can buy booze and cigars on line but not pipe tobacco. WTF? Then have people tell me well you can go to Seattle or Tacoma and shop there. Living on the coast to drive 3.5 hours one way for tobacco ain't happening. So I am relegated to OTC tobacco or that rare trip to astoria.

Maybe people posting in threads that say something that obviously shows they did not read a single post in the thread. They merely reply to the OP, while everyone else has resolved it and moved on, or elaborated more on the issue.

Regardless, their post then messes up the flow of dialog. But, that's not a pipe pet peave.
And, I don't lose sleep over it... Actually, I just chuckle when it happens... Eh, no, come to think of it, it doesn't really bother me at all.

Regarding cancer from smoking and possibly other things.
I think there is scientific consensus that the leading cause of death is .... Living. Almost a perfect one when measured as a correlation coefficient.
As a result I continue to work on my post retirement plans, with confession and mass scheduled for later today.
