And I didn't mean to say "You're a problem customer" with my post - maybe you are I dunno, but the broader point is that when I log in somewhere I have more messages than I can deal with, many of them spurious or just plain stupid (still waiting for the Russian girl I ordered). So my patience for actual "maybe" customers is thinner than it should be, the amount of time I have is less. Instagram is my least preferred platform. There may well be a guy waiting for me to answer his messages there, and he may think I don't care about him, but the truth is I haven't logged on since November and I get no notifications, thank god. So don't take it personally necessarily. The world is what it is, and if you are having problems with someone's site, a million other people are too, and maybe they can fix it and maybe they can't, but they don't OWE everyone an email, it would be nice, but it's not necessarily going to happen.

I have vendors I love in my "real life" job, and vendors I hate and try not to deal with. There's places I can get real service and places I can't.

You seem to be taking this Farid Dunhill thing too seriously. You say you’re not “that guy” but you respond with at least two paragraphs or more to every response that sounds like it might be accusing you of being even a slight PITA. Which makes you seem like you could be “that guy”.

Again, move on. If you communicate in a reasonable fashion, you’re going to be treated well by the majority of venders and carvers. There’s thousands of pipes for sale out there, move on and find one.

Instagram is not a way to have real communication. Instagram is for *pipe maker posts a pipe and says DM for sale* and someone sends a message saying “I’ll take it” not for lengthy communication.

Also i stopped reading the OP halfway though, communication style might have something to do with it, so you get paid by the word? Also you’re paying for a pipe not a friend.

I may be of the wrong generation to comment on this, but: Instagram would be the *last* way I would try to reach out to a company. (But via eBay would run a close second.)
True. I would not be surprised to find a smaller company checks their Instagram and replies on a schedule and it not being the priority method of communication even. Do the e-mails first, then the social media questions. Personally unless a company says that's the preferred method of contact, I would assume they're less likely to take it as seriously. I think you would get more casual less serious inquiries that way. I.e. a person who really wants to buy the whatever is more likely to e-mail or use the contact feature on the main website.
If you’re trying to communicate with a business, use their web site. Reach out via email. Or give them a call. (I’d also say that Twitter can work, but I don’t use it and have no idea what its current state is, post-Musk.)

But it kind of sounds like you’re wanting to start conversations with these folks. (You mention that they “stop replying,” which suggests that maybe they’re tiring of the questions or that you’re asking unnecessary questions.) Regardless of how you attempt to reach out, I’d suggest being as concise as possible—one short paragraph—asking your question, then thanking them for their time.

Bob
Always try to respect how busy they may be. Knowing that especially this time of year with business and family commitments. And how many other people are contacting them with maybe questions.

I suspect this is a generational thing. When you grow up with instant shipping updates, instant tracking codes, email chains of postal updates, etc. Information. Constant. Instantly. Customers expecting someone to hold their hand from the moment they visit a website or social media page. I get it. A lot of hard-earned money getting exchanged, emotional expectations, excitement, etc. But I cannot imagine it. I used to run a mailorder business, making daily runs to the post office to ship a duffel bag of packages. It was a music mailorder and record label. The difference was that patience was built into the process. Today, impatience is built into the process. Thank goodness I never had to deal with "Where's my tracking code?" 15 minutes after they hit paypal. "It shows a tracking code was generated, but have you sent the package yet?" 2 hours after they hit paypal. "Do you think the tracking code estimated delivery date is accurate?" 24 hours after they hit paypal. Your impatience is driving both of us crazy. Let's try to keep this fun, eh?

Guys, I was simply having a discussion. I don't mind the criticism, sure I do type paragraphs since I always do here in the forum, and mentioning Farid dunhill is not taking anything serious, I am just discussing my situation. You can have all the doubts about me, I understand that. When I reply with a "yes, but" like Algerian said, I simply am delving more into it as I only know this forum to have any pipe related discussions. Thank you Sasquatch for your input being a pipe maker, and the others too. AJL67 mentioned typing for payment and the having a friend... what did I say that made you think I did that? I had a problem with merchant service that they didn't resolve, my experience with others, and that's it. Did I tell you I requested an online hangout session with them? Anyways, thank you all.

Instagram is more of a showroom for carvers. Many of them have websites with contact information that'll get you an answer more quickly than the Instagram messenger.

I didn't only mention him. This is a pipe smoking discussion forum, hence the paragraphs. I may be a PITA sure. I can contact other ones, and I can discuss my experience here. Have your say.

though I just have to point out... That this is a discussion and a casual one on a forum. I think we all act pretty different in our reactions here then we do with sellers of any sort with any communications.
