I never have any luck with lighters. The flint wheels usually end up building nice calluses. I must have replaced around 7 in the past 6 months. So i decided to try a Colibri Connaught II and my thumb has never been happier
Now if it can just last a couple of years minimum i will have made a saving.

I have an Old Boy that I keep at the house on my end table with all of my pipes. For everyday...I have a Zippo that I bought at the Harley Dealer and put in a vector butane pipe insert. I always overfill the zippo and end up with a chemical burn on my leg (from the lighter being in my pocket). I have two colibri pipe lighters up in my dresser that are both junk. The vector insert and the old boy are the only ones that don't clog up.

I have used my trusty old boy for years now. I love having the tamper in the lighter and it has a nice soft flame. For special occasions I use my Davidoff pipe lighter that I picked up in Paris back in 2000. The old boy is to the far right and the Davidoff is the one next to it to the left. The others are Duponts from my cigar days.

Niiice collection you have there!
I have 3 lighters, 2 zippos (1 is a pipe lighter) and a new colibri which has the tamper built in as well. So far I am really liking the colibri - gentle flame with easy to adjust length, reaches right into the bowl. I like the quartz ignition too - not sure how reliable it will be in the long run, but so far it's awesome!

6,thanks for the compliment, I used to collect lighters. I hope you get lucky with the colibri, they are notorious for breaking down. If it craps out on you grab an old boy, it will last for years. I got mine about 12 years ago I think and other than sending it in once to clean it out, it has been a trooper.

Yeah - I was drooling over the old boy—got "James Bond" written all over it. 8)
But the budget insisted on Colibri. I am hoping higher quality, extra refined fuel will keep it working extra long.

The better fuel will definitly help. Make sure to purge the tank often, too, as that also makes a big difference. I've had a couple of them and all but one died after fairly short usable lifespans. The one was $100 Christmas gift that I use very rarely and probably the reason it lasted.

I purge every time before refilling and I only use Vector fuel. It is refined a number of times and it has been great in all my lighters for a very long time.
6, keep an eye out on ebay for the old boys, you can sometimes get a real good deal on one.

Tried the DJeep lighter on vacation and in windy conditions, it didn't work, plus being hard to roll the striker wheel....I'm not a fan of them, but it got through Airport Security well.
Havent had any problems with wind or the wheel... works great

Based on the comments here, I bought a 4 pack of 'em for cheap ($10 included shipping). HATE the darn things. What I dislike most about these Djeeps is how easy it is to burn my hand when using them. But, as a woman, my hand is likely smaller than most of you guys' hands, so that may be my issue with them.
Since I only smoke outside, a lighter HAS to work well in the wind. Zippo has never failed me. All the others have.
I am so tired of wasting money on lighters I don't like or that don't work in a light breeze. So, from now on, I'm sticking with my Zippo. Never fails me, except when it runs out of fluid. And for THAT little problem, I have decided to get one of those little Zippo extra lighter fluid tanks to attach to my pipe bag.
Just my 2c, and what works for me. YMMV, of course.

Heard zippos change the taste of the tobacco, true? false?

on the zippo matter just burn it for a quick second before lighting and the flavor will not change.
i like my jetline now that i got it working. i think the subject of pipe lighters would be more useful with we talked about lighter fluid. the fuel we put in is really what makes or breaks a lighter in my findings.

Does anyone know of a good pipe lighter that has the pipe tools built into it?

I'm familiar with the Djeep disposables ... but I think the original poster was referring to a pipe lighter version?
For the sake of simplicity I'm considering buying a pipe lighter with a built in pipe tool attached.

I agree that Djeeps are the best inexpensive pipe lighters. At under $3, you cant beat it. Never felt the need to look for a Djeep pipe lighter, as the regular one work so well. I especially like the faux leather covered ones. I've been waiting for the Elvis ones to show up locally!

I just splurged on this lighter. I plan on passing it down to my son as an heirloom some day. I'm going to get it engraved.

Because that rule only applies to people posting their own stuff that they make (would be highly disrespectful to our site sponcers), posting links to businesses you do not profit from is not against the rules because it helps the conversations along.

I've used a Zippo with a pipe insert, a Zippo with a butane pipe insert, an Old Boy, and an Arango. For the most part, it's Old Boy relaxing at home, and either Zippo other than that. I am curious about the JetLine Bolla though. The price is right, and it seems similar to the Xikar Resource, just cheaper. Although, I love Xikar products (have plenty of cigar accessories and lighters from them) and you can't beat their warranty or customer service. Anyone have any thoughts on the JetLine Bolla?
