Other than my cobs, it is the least expensive pipe I have ever purchased.

If I had the money to burn I would be all over it. but because of personal stuff money is tight right now I have even sold off a big chunk of my pipes and cellar to help.

I would first need to know on average what to shoot for price-wise and quantity. For me to cast it in my studio, it would most likely be out most people's price range. I use very old techniques. But, I can use a local casting house. But, it would take some calculating. The more I have cast, the lower the cost. Even with me not taking a profit, it could run above most of our friends' price range. Unless we could get enough people to buy one, so that we could distribute the production costs across more people.
Or we can just run with the idea of lapel pins in general... Then I could make a few hand carved pipe pins to put out there. I have been kicking around the idea. I also have some briar that I could makes some carved pieces and set them in silver.
Either way... If we get enough interested, I would love the honor of having some cast. But, like I said, the more, the cheaper. Or, I can make up a few unique pieces, which would be more fun for me.

I was gone one day and return to a thread that has just blown up! How cool is that‽ I think we have some really good responses and definitely the interest in making something happen.
iamn8, I too did some online searching and found that through a similar yet separate site we could have them made at $2.38 each. Of course we would have to pay for 100 minimum. The price decreases the more we make but I think we would have trouble getting rid of 100. Still, I think they would eventually get sold. All I would be looking for is to get reimbursed.
On the other hand, cosmicfolklore's take on this has me most intrigued. If he could get it anywhere near a reasonable price I would much rather have a quality item with his personal touch. I would pay quite a bit relative to what a small pin would usually go for. My biggest concern is heavily tasking cosmic on a project he may or may not be to enthusiastic to take on.

So first things first! If you want to do this then great! Get us a price concept and how many you’d tolerate making. I think I can speak for the floor here though and say that if this is the kind of gravy you’d rather just pass up we all understand. There are other good options that will work so no pressure.

Why not two grades, hand-made and bulk. I might p[purchase a hand-made one to put in the drawer with all of the other pins I've accumulated over the years. While I certainly wouldn't wear one, owning one is a different proposition.

So that's what you guys are doing now that everyone is wise to that whole "foot tap" thing. :laughat:

I will take to to the drawing board and crunch some numbers for the cast pieces. And, I usually have a few projects going on to distract me from the slave labor part of my job, ha ha. So, I will kick out a few one-of-a-kind pieces as I go.
On the cast pieces, I will do them without profit or charging for my time, if I can get enough pre-orders to make it cheap enough for everyone. Of course, I will show you guys what they look like first with a prototype. But, it would be nice if I could make them cheap enough to get folks to buy one that wouldn't otherwise think they could afford one.
So, let's hear it if you'd be interested. Keep posting.

I'm guessing that we will not be satisfied until we have cob pins and various shapes including free hands. I personally would like a fully bent bulldog with a sliver of ruby to denote the ember. Could you also put a wisp of smoke rising from the bow? Perhaps using hand hammered gold and silver thread?
Oh, not to be a bother but, could you do one up for Peck with a Dunhill dot. He is so deserving of something a wee bit special don't you think. Or, perhaps a spigot? Moen would be acceptable I think.

Definitely interested - I have a modest pin collection that could stand some expansion... :D
