Yeah, old Spock has got to be thinking "Man, I got to get me some of that".
Pipestud is probably right but if it was me I'd just get rid of the pipe.

Would be be willing to share a little more detail on how exactly you go about this? Or a link? Do you use a actual drill, just the bit turned by hand or a Dremel? I don't want to ruin this pipe but after 3 more attempts to smoke it in about over this thing.
I use a drill by hand and start with a 5/32 bit. If the pipe is already drilled that wide or wider, then I don't think opening the draft hole will help the pipe.

I like semi-churchwardens. A pipe about 7 1/2". If you like cobs try the MM Shire Cobbit. It is a nice size semi-churchwarden with a really great weight and feel in the hand. It has a great draw and is a really good smoker. One of my favorites.
Couldn't agree more on that pipe. It's one of my favorites.

This is one of the reasons I haven't even thought about a churchwarden. Other than travel ability, they just look like they are hard to smoke. Lol

It will be the draw, restricted in stem or stummel. Pull them apart to breathe through both of them separately. If it is stummel, then @pipestud s trick will see you right. if it is that long stem, and its not just blockage, but a draft hole that is too slim then that might be tricksy....

Sounds like one pipe I had which I sent back to the seller they sent it back along with a small bit of stuff that got stuck in the stems bend. I wish I knew how they got it out. The pipe still was way more restricted then my other pipes. The thing is it smokes great but is also pickier about some things then my other pipes. I have to pack like Embers suggests (extra loose). One question as you smoke it does it get worse and does it get worse quickly. That was the weird thing that would make me think something is blocking the stem. A pipe that's not drilled good will kind of suck about the same through out and not get worse till the dottle starts getting damp. A blockage will get progressively more restricted.

nope. They smoke pretty easy. The only problem I have is at first I subconsciously would smoke harder on one feeling like I had to. They draw a little slower then a shorter pipe. Like a fraction of a second longer before the first bit of smoke hits. Like fraction of a second. From imperceptible from instant to almost instant. Otherwise you can smoke it just like any other pipe.

Oh man?‍♂️ This thread escalated while I was gone.
To those that posted advice thanks I'll give it all a whirl. Especially after my Savinelli Tandem showed to day smoking like a dream and 100% convincing me it's the pipe and not me.

Get an 11/64 drill bit and drill out the existing hole. Don't push very hard when drilling. The bit will likely pull itself into the existing hole. Careful when you reach the bowl so you don't drill into the opposite side of the bowl. Don't ask me how I know this.
