Am I correct in dating this example as May 1966? 566
Is 38 the price?

That's curious. I doubt 38 would be the price. I've never heard of a price actually being stamped on a pipe. The 566 could be the model number. According to the Pipe-Dan flyer in Pipedia, some models did have a registration number, but they were 4 digit rather than 2. Can you post a picture of the full pipe ?

I'm a fan of Pipe-Dan.

Wow. Excellent documentation. Thanks for sharing. Always something new to learn in the wonderful world of piping. If I could only time warp back to the 60's and 70's, I would buy 100 brand new pipes.

I guess it's an egg shape, so I suspect it has even more leaf capacity that it appears, kind of an egg-stack. Some of the best brands have long discontinued production. I really like my Bari pipe, another long-gone brand.

OP pipe looks like a “Danois”. Pricing in the 62 catalog is in the low 30s, so 38 DKK in 1966 probably makes sense:

Beautiful pipe. I'd love a few Pibe-Dan for my collection. They have some excellent chimney-stack formats. I don't collect Danish pipes at all but these are just exceptional and appear to be magnificent smokers, especially for Virginia flakes. Cheers.
