Generally speaking in most jurisdictions, the parol evidence rule, in the context of testate (I.e., will) contests, prevents the use of outside (extrinsic) evidence, including prior oral statements by the decedent, to contradict or alter the clear, unambiguous terms of a written will.

Similarly, evidentiary rules such as Federal Rule of Evidence 408, prohibit the admissibility of oral statements made during settlement negotiations.

All cases are fact and jurisdiction specific, but I’m failing to see what the issue is here unless the brother is claiming an inter vivos (while the decedent was living) ownership interest in the guns, such as having actually contributed to their purchase.
I do not have the intimate details, but I do know the Will was changed within the last year while the dad was Ill, not dying, but sick. He was expected to be ok. I BELIEVE the previous Will had the brother as the one to recieve much of the collection. The son was taking care of his dad, and dad was on pretty high doses of pain killers when the Will was redone. The main issue is the brother says the dad changed his 25 year old Will, while sick and shortly before he died.
My friend told me the legal terminology but I don't remember.
My friends lawyer says there is nothing to worry about, it's just going to need some time.

My wife hates that I smoke pipes and cigars, but tolerates my hobby. I've told her that I have a list of my pipes and tobacco's and she's been advised to not just get rid of them in haste. As much as I know she would like to. Not that my collection is worth a lot of money, but I'd rather her get a fair value for my collection instead of just getting rid of them, so I've cataloged them so she knows what each pipe is and how much I paid for them. She also knows to give my cigar collection away to certain friends. In the event that my kids want some of my pipes or cigars; I'm sure they'll take them, but I know the wife won't be to happy about that.

As for my sports memorabilia, my toy collection, and my record/CD collection; those will probably go to my kids, unless they decide they don't want them, and those to will be sold off as well.

While I'm on this earth I'll enjoy my collections and when I'm gone it won't matter. All I hope for is that they just don't go to a landfill, and someone else will enjoy them in the future. Whether that's my kids or someone else who will appreciate the collections.

Please say more.

Growing up in the 80's we had some of the best toys. Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Voltron, He-Man, WWF, Micro-Machines, and plenty of others. When my brother and I got older and my parents were cleaning out the attic and under the stairs my brother and I took a bunch of our toys. When it came time to split up the toys it was hard to figure out who's figures were who's, so instead of arguing with my brother over who gets what I made a concession. As I was more attached to the He-Man and WWF figures I took all of those and I let my brother have the Star Wars and G.I. Joe figures. He was more into those so it worked out good for both of us. Did he get the better collections... maybe, but I had more memories with He-Man and WWF so I wanted those. Still not sure what happened to our Transformers and Voltron. I have other random toys from back in the day as well, but unfortunately a lot of our toys were so beat up that they went to a landfill. So sad.

Both of my He-Man and WWF collections are on display in my shop; though when I remodeled the shop I had to down-size a little bit but, so not all of it is on display. With the Kevin Smith animated He-Man series from several years ago, He-Man became popular again and the the classic figures were re-released under the Origins title, so I have a whole new collection of He-Man figures to go with my original figures as well.

That’s so great! If you get a chance, please post some pics. I remember my old WWF figures and the blue ring that we had. I never had any He-Man toys but I love the Origins Skeletor and have thought about getting one.

Here are a few pics of how my original LJN WWF figures are displayed in my shop, and from time to time I'll pull them down to rearrange them and pretend to have Wrestle Mania and make matches.

Yes, I still play with my toys. I'm an 80's Kid and the the saying "I'm a Toy's R Us Kid, and I don't want to grow up," is very true. LOL

Wait a minute: No Sgt. Slaughter? I’m appalled. 😀

Wait a minute: No Sgt. Slaughter? I’m appalled. 😀

In the mid 80's Sgt. Slaughter signed a deal with Hasbro, and was released as a G.I. Joe 6" figure, after rising in popularity in the early 80's. He was not part of the LJN / Titan Sports WWF figure release by Vince McMahon as a result of his contract with Hasbro. Sgt. Slaughter then parted ways with WWF partly because of this contract issue and creating some bad blood with him and McMahon before ultimately coming back in to the WWF a few years later. After he returned to WWF, Hasbro then released a 8" figure similar to the LJN line of toys that was a mail-away special release figure but not was part of the 6 part series release of LJN / Titan Sports WWF original figures. So Sgt. Slaughter was never part of the original LJN / Titan Sports WWF figures. So, yeah, I don't have Sgt. Slaughter.
