I would agree with other suggestions above.. the best advice I was able to obtain on the this forum that really changed the experience for me was an off comment made from a forum member who said the his wife would always say to him "your blowing in the wrong hole." I was like WTF is this crazy man doing....but I tried it out and surprise..great smoke every time!

Heres the trick..dry out the to tobacco to your liking (near crispy is good for me), then pack your pipe full but not toight full just full enough, got it so far...great, now blow ....blow a full breath through the top of your bowl and out the shaft. This will accomplish two things but maybe more, it A) humidifies the tobacco to optimum levels and 2) blows out any bits the will most likely go in your mouth causing a mini nic hit/sting.

There's great people and support on here and sometimes its in a nonchalant joke!

Keep posting if you have questions and also use the search function because, that's where the gold is....

So I've been pipe smoking for a few weeks now and I last week bought a savinelli pipe which i love. As it's new ive been going by the rules of only smoking it every 24-48 hours. I've also been cleaning it with a pipe cleaner after each smoke. What ive noticed is that despite pushing a pipe cleaner through till it runs clean I'm still getting a bitter taste after about half a bowl. its like the condensation tastes foul and i can see a yellowish liquid gathering at the very tip of the bit. Is this because I haven't done an alcohol clean yet? Hope that's not a too stupid question!
You may need to dry your tobacco more. Sounds a bit like too much moisture. Running a couple of pipe cleaners through the airway during and after a smoke will help with the moisture issue. Also, when done for the day, remove the stem and use a couple of pipe cleaners to scrub out the mortise, then reassemble. Make sure that you clean out the slot, as bitter oils can collect there as well while smoking.

That is bizarre! I'll have to give it a shot one day just for the sake of trying, but I'll do it with no one else around haha

I clean the piss out of my pipe I use as many as 4 soft fluffy cleaners and after every use. I use my bristle use at least for 4-6 permit. I clean them so much so I rarely have to use my reamer and I get a real cleaner so that my bristle cleaners work great on my normal pipes. I clean the pipes so much I just I use my cleaners for years. I don't waste my money for each car and I have very clean cards.
