gimmicky marketing scheme
In all my years, they are considerable, I've never seen any marketing for pipe cleaners, excepting those for children's crafts.

When a pipe is smoked three to five times in a row, no rest, during the day, a swabbing out of the stem and shank is almost required. The dilatanttes, a bowl a day or less, hobbyists?, may not use them but, those of us who "smoke, really smoke a pipe need to clean and mop now and then.

How many bowls a day? And, it's a distinction I make to separate the dilettantes from those who really work their pipes. If you ain't burning a few bowls a day, I wouldn't consider you to be a pipe smoker. Hobbyist maybe. A dabbler at most.:col:

Unbelievable.. I spend all these hours burning all this tobacco, and I get no respect.

At least he didn't call me a piper.. then we would have to fight. nnnn

I use the BJL 6.5" standard cleaners. I habitually pinch the cleaner and run my fingers down 2 or 3 times before use, removing the loose material first.

For most pipes, I can run it in once from each end without getting the heavily soiled portion back into the stem. Then, it gets folded in half and used in the chamber.

Finally the dirty, folded cleaner goes into an 8 ounce tobacco can with the plastic lid to contain the smell and mess until garbage day.

My ash gets dumped into a tall shot glass with a flared opening and a small plastic lid on top. When full, it is dumped into a ziplock bag residing near the trash can.

These two measures, along with my exhausting box fan, have kept my tobacco hating Mrs satisfied.

I use them in combination with unscented toilet paper and never reuse them. I also chop the dirty part away and use every inch of them instead of throwing away after one swab.
I buy the cheapest ones, big quantity - 5k pieces while on sale and after I don't want to think or talk about it. It's a small and necessary investment compared to pipes or tobacco.

@jpmcwjr do you use pipe cleaners as part of your cleaning regime? Along with the water flush?

Sometimes! If the water doesn't flow out the bit nicely, yes, a pipe cleaner to remove the partial obstruction.

When I started this in earnest 4-5 years ago, I always swabbed out the moisture, but now I let them air dry.
