Thank you for all nice comments! Proper tripoli and polishing compounds as well as staining liquid is now bought, so hopefully I will finish this one tonight. Nikko: Yes I think I have, already got two more blocks waiting :)

I have now stained the wood. First coat black, second black brown and third golden brown. I sanded in between first and second coat. It was a bit tricky to know how much stain to add, sometimes I had to wipe off some excess with a cloth and the stain was a bit sticky. My biggest mistake was that I forgot to mount the stem before sanding the first coat :?, so the fitting of the stem isn't as good as before unfortunately, there is a slight gap and miss alignment, but now I will remember this for the next pipe. I still need to pollish it more ( the surface isn't perfect, it has some small scratches from the sanding ) especially the stem, and add Carnuba wax, but thats for tomorrow!

I use alcohol based wood stain. I think I added a too thick layer, so I wiped the excess off with a rug and it got a bit sticky at that point. But it tried out nicely. I'm not too good in explaining this in English :) Next time I will test stain on a separate piece of wood first.
