Ok, a few words for introduction.
Just a little side shelf in my garage where I keep my active and "to open" blends, pipes, and paraphernalia. (I didn't know that word had an "r" in it until I had to figure out how to correct the spelling - guess I've pronounced it incorrectly for decades too.) This area hasn't been properly cleaned in about 4-5 years, but I spend a lot of time here, sometimes escaping the sun, even more escaping the cold in the winter.

And for the eagle-eyes, yes there are dirty pipe cleaners there. Yes I'll re-use some for a dirty chamber, draft hole or mortise sometimes at some point in the cleaning. No they don't go back in my stems.............

They're my pennies and I'll pinch them as hard as I want. puffy

Cheers

"This is just my little shelf of random tins I keep in the garage" he says...

Fuck I'd like to see his actual cellar!
Yeah, I've got plastic tubs in the cellar. Working on filling the 4th. And that's where I keep most jars, and mylar bags I've gotten in sales from here.

97% of what you see in the picture above are my "to try" blends. (It extends further both left and right.)
Over the last 4-5 years I basically bought myself a store full of what seemed I'd like and like to explore. It has worked well for the most part, as I'd say I probably have enjoyed ~80% or so of what I've tried. I got samples of all the Pipe Force blends before release and liked all of them so I've had them, but not from a tin. The jars up top on the right and the Carter Hall are open. The rest are strangers but I will make their acquaintance someday.

Picture = thousands of words and dollars, for sure. most if not all pipes are bent/army mounts?
Nice collection of tobaccos of all types, wonder how long does it takes to get to that level? puffypuffypuffy
Once I really got the hang of the P-lip that's all I purchase now. And bent has been preferred over straight. I have a lot of friends from before that time: bents and straights with fishtails and such, some of them I'll hang onto, others I'll soon be putting back out there for others...
I even (gasp) think I'll be culling my Peterson fish tails too, although that is just a little harder to do...

So if this is the active and open that means there's more than what we're seeing in the photo?!

Actively open, "and to open". And yes, there's more to both left, right, (and downstairs...).
There are more open ones out of the picture, but most of everything seen are single representations of blends currently new to me that I'm going to be trying.
Others that have been tried (which you don't see) and I liked, have siblings in the cellar. Some of these unopened tins already have siblings there as well because I was confident about my eventual enjoyment.
Anyway, the gist is that most everything seen in this picture represents a "new to me" blend that I will be choosing at random to enjoy as time goes by. By default, almost everything will have some decent age on it by the time I get around to trying it.
I actually hesitate to open a C&D tin without a bulge on it these days.........they all seem to eventually let me know when they've added some extra goodness to the creation.
I know this isn't the way most do their exploration but it's working for me.

Ahhhh.......you also use callipers to measure each strand of tobacco to ensure you get a consistent burn. I thought I was the only one.

Jokes aside, excellent photo.....making me drool!

I actually have too damn many pipes, many that I gathered along the way in the same searching fashion as I'm obviously doing with the leaf. I'll use the calipers to measure chamber dimensions when I list a pipe on my micro-business listing on Etsy. I really need to get to that while I've got a few months left this year.
