I think we have come to the main cause of the issue. You have two sinks. We have one. Unless you are posh.
Here are photos of my sink and egg container on the worktop.

@Flatfish Some of us in UK actually use the hot tap, kept running at a slow trickle, to rinse the soap off the dishes after we've cleaned them. This is how we prevail over the limitation of a single sink. You know, I thought this was what everyone did until I picked up this thread... :-/

Is there some sort of sink shortage over there? Hell, my wife wants a new sink every time she gets on pinterest, ha ha. I just installed a new one this last summer.

1. Our direction indicator lights are orange. Only the brake lights are red.
We used to have a nice distinction between brake lights and turn indicators. I must agree that I've noticed a bit of "blurring" between these lately, and it can be aggravating. As well as making some of the brake lights "blink" in association with an actual different light as a signal - VERY aggravating. Like wondering if there's an electrical short and whether or not that's REALLY a turn signal.....
Is it because most of our autos are now made in Asia?

This is probably more of a city thing than a British thing, but most of the kitchens in flats I've lived in have barely had enough room to get 2 people past each other, let alone a second sink... do you not have galley kitchens in the states?

Obviously I am a British subject that has resided in the Colonies for almost 30 years! The one thing I have noticed is just how like the Brit's the people from the Deep South are in so many ways. It was explained to me that since the 'South' was made up of Scots, English and Irish it was not very surprising. In fact the Southern vernacular is very easy for me to understand since it is not unlike someone playing a 78 rpm record at 33 1/3 rpm. On the other hand I am often perplexed by some of the spoken 'English' in New York especially when it comes to Ebonics! On the whole I have always found the Americans to be a generous, engaging and once they commit to something they tend to see it through to the end. I have made many close personal friendships with people over here, some of whom I have never met but who I interact with through this place. It has to be understood we Brit's are a strange bunch but if we like you we will happily go down in rain of fists to defend your corner.

In many ways we're embodying our native isle rather well
Absolutely. If this were a majority Brit forum, a thread like this would have started with the Scots and the English mocking each other, then the Welsh having a go at the English, then the North and the South of England mocking each other and being dismissive of Wales, then North and South Wales ditto with one another, then neighbouring counties casting mutual aspersions, and finally two adjacent towns being reciprocally rude about one another. And I can even think of a few English towns where different districts say uncomplimentary things about their neighbours.

One of my favourite Dundonian phrases from my grandad (which will likely go over the heads of everyone here who doesn't know Scottish geography) is "It taks a lang spoon tae sup wi a Fifer"

Reminds me of a true story. Dagenham is a place in East London and is famous for hosting the Ford Motor Company. Back in the 1980s my friend Jim who lived in South London was getting all fruity with his girlfriend in the back seat of his Ford Escort. Well things got very steamy until she said 'Jim would you kiss me in the dirty place?'. Apparently his response was that he wasn't taking her all the way to Dagenham just to f*ck her! rotf

There is a seaport on the south coast of England, divided in two parts by a river called the Itchen. The majority of the city is Southampton proper, and there's an addendum on the eastern side known as Woolston, where in better times there was a shipyard (where I once worked long ago). The good folk on the west bank used to say of those on the other side: "If you goes over Itchen, you comes back scratchin' ".

Oooooooh - a spot of pommie bashing !
I'm afraid in these enlightened, woke times we're NOT allowed to do that anymore in Oz
We just invite them over for a game of cricket
Of course the Aussie b*stards got rather good at cricket because in the penal colonies of New South Wales there was not much else to do, apart from abusing sheep.
