For some reason Americans have a problem with the letter 'T'.

Internet becomes innernet, duty become doody etc. I'd love to hear an American say "...yes, it's a metal medal he was awarded..." :)
The one thing about America, is that we are not all the same. If you heard me speak, you would hear clear enunciations. I will sometimes write in slang, for effect, but I do sometimes hear people talk as you have described. But, in no way is there anything linguistic that unites Americans.

And, in separating from Britain, yes, we decided that we were no only going to rise up against the monarchy, but that we would also establish our own rules to our language.

But still.... chlorine wash?

That would be 'Londonspeak'.
"Ows it 'angin'" while strongly grabbing one's crotch is very Cockney in my experience :)

And "oroit luv?" (or generally pulling the last syllable to make everything sound like a question) is very Brum. I spent many years in Buhhhhhmighm, also knew some people from Dood-la-Y in the Black Count-rah,

Also, is it true that in Britain, the bag for your groceries is not a given? I listened to a story about how my friend had to just awkwardly carry his groceries out in his arms till he realized that he has to ask for a bag.
Here, they don't give you your items till they are bagged.

Yes thats true. You have to pay for them. I refuse to pay for them so end up stuffing pockets and try to carry everything.
For a proper shop though, we would bring strong bags with us.
Whilst I was initially opposed to paying for carrier bags. It has massively reduced the amount of bags being thrown away, because nobody much buys them.
