Upon @BROBS recommendation and urging I picked up a couple of ounces of Picayune to give a try.

I sure am glad I had breakfast before I tried it... This is by far the strongest tobacco I have ever tasted. I ain't no wuss, Happy Brown Bogie is in my regular rotation but this far surpasses it in Nic strength and taste.

Must be careful with this one. It had ZERO and quite tasty, bite but damn...... It was very nice though.

Mark's interview on the Pipesmagazine Radioshow, he mentioned that of all the blends he makes, this one gets the most comments about stregnth... guys having to pull over their cars while driving and smoking this, etc... That immediately sent me looking for it, ha ha. I love it. Most strong blends carry a strong burleyish flavor, but this is more like a VaPer on steroids.

Something else to keep in mind, before Virginias became a thing, all pipe tobaccos were very strong. Perique was most often smoked either by itself or blended with a burley. This reminds me of what late 19th century writers meant when they were regarding an Acadian tobacco. It wasn't until Virginias and lighter tobaccos became a norm in the 20th century that you could smoke a pipe without getting the full on rush of nicotine.

I recently purchased a 3.5oz tub of this and while I like it I certainly don’t think I can make it a regular. It’s still in the tub because it came so dry I felt like jarring would be redundant. Does anyone recommend jarring these blends or are they ok to sit in the tub?

I bought some a while back. I think I would have liked it more if I had taken the time to rehydrate it to my preference.
This is why I have stayed away from the D&R offerings. I have no desire to rehydrate tobacco after I purchase it. I don't think this is the case for all of his blends but it seems to be the case for most of them. Maybe someone can jump in and clarify.

Picayune is not quite as dry as some of the other D&R offerings, but certainly drier than most blends from other blenders.

I was thrown off by this at first... but if you pack them tighter it seems to fix the problems of tobacco that is too dry.

Sic transit gloria mundi.

When I became aware that D&R was being sold, I stocked up on a few blends that I hadn't tried, including Picayune. As I'm not a huge Nic fan, and Picayune is legendary for the punch it delivers, I figured that the 1/2 lb I bought would be more than sufficient.
This is just a gentle reminder that blends can disappear without warning and for a variety of reasons. So if there's something available that you like, start adding some of it to your cellar. You don't have to go bat shit cray cray about it, just accumulate some extra a bit at a time. That way you will still have some stock if a much loved blend goes Poof! Goodbye!.
