Sic transit gloria mundi.

When I became aware that D&R was being sold, I stocked up on a few blends that I hadn't tried, including Picayune. As I'm not a huge Nic fan, and Picayune is legendary for the punch it delivers, I figured that the 1/2 lb I bought would be more than sufficient.

I'm not a nicotine fan either so I've avoided picayune for years because of its reputation. I picked up about a pound recently (just because it's now or never) and found it's a top shelf vaper with great perique flavor. That's reason enough to have some around. Only wish I could get that flavor without the excessive nicotine.

Even though they don’t list it, I’m fairly certain there’s a fire-cured Burley or Dark Kentucky lurking in that fine shag somewhere. It gives me that same little catch in the back of my throat that DFK does. I’ve only ever had fire-cured leaf do that to me. You can taste it intermittently too, something similar to a cheroot/toscano cigar. It’s in the background, but it’s there. It and the Perique are the nic deliverers in that one I believe.

I know it's a longshot..

Anyone know of a similar blend?
Not still in production, but Hearth and Home had one called Freight Train that I used to love. Russ told me that some of the components were getting hard to find.

C&D's Poplar Camp is pretty close, but still doesn't ring that top end bell for nicotine. It doesn't have the Oriental components either.

I am going to start playing around with blending to see if I can make me something close.

I recommend smoking this blend in the morning in smaller size bowls if you are not used to it. The reason for this is you would normally crave nicotine more in the morning, whereas the smaller size bowl will help in dosing it down a bit so that you won't be overwhelmed. Another option in the full-body category would be Cockstrong, but based on my personal experience this blend is not as full and high in nicotine content as Picayune.

I don't know if it's considered similar, but I actually switched to Bayou Nights for a strong spicy blend. I ended up smoking it far more often than Picayune, but it scratched the same itch (for me). It's got the same ingredients, but with the addition of some latakia (not too much).

I like Bayou Night as well, but they don’t taste anything alike to me.
