Peterson system Question

Hello fellow pipe Smokers from Evans GA.

I'm new to the forum and pipe smoking, starting this journey around Thanksgiving with a MM Legand and house blends from my local B&M and really loving it! Got a Country Gentleman and a 50 dollar brier coming for Christmas with my first English blend I'm looking forward to trying. My question is about Petersons system pipes, I like the looks and the history behind them and was wondering how they smoke and if they are worth investing in or if it just gimmick? You're thoughts are appreciated!

Peterson System pipes smoke very well. If they were a gimmick, they wouldn't have been around as long as they have.

I have owned one, the 303 it was older make and it was very good smoker,sold it out cuz it is seldom when I smoke bent pipes

Some people love them, some people hate them.

I found the whole "delivering smoke away from the tongue" feature to be inconsequential.

Im a clencher - the P-lip (to me) feels like I have a pacifier in my mouth.

I have a Peterson System Standard XL315 and I like it! The P Lip is something you have to get used to, I like bigger buttons on pipes, the way it delivers smoke is to me more a gimmick than a actual dealbreaking feature.

I have an older system pipe (a 309), it smokes dry which is a plus as I tend to slobber. Also, have a couple of P-Lip bits, I don't mind them and it doesn't affect which pipe I select to smoke. However, if given a choice I prefer a fishtail bit.

Peterson's is an old and honored marque. I have a half dozen; all smoke just fine.

Just note that pipes are not an investment! No amateur has made real money in pipes.

I have about 20 System pipes... So I guess you could say I like them.

It's a "gimmick" that's been around for about 100 years, and copied by other pipe manufacturers.

It works as advertised; removes moisture from the smoke stream. The only downside is that it can dribble water all over if you happen to tip the pipe when there is moisture in the well...

If you are truely buying a pipe as an investment, one that moves oil would be a better investment.

They just like all of the successful system pipes (system pipe by my definition is any trick or design that is supposed to cool the smoke or have some other pleasant effect) they work. That said it's not a game changer. It's more like it gives you a little more room to puff a little harder and makes the pipe a little more forgiving. That said I find my one system pipe to be my hands down best smoker but again not so much better that my other pipes can't compete with it. So yeah it works but do not expect a magical miraculous change.
One last attempt to dial in my point. If there where two pipes I was having trouble choosing between and one was a system pipe that might push it over the line.
I just had a little thought. Which is if it was a game changer then nearly everyone would copy it. And if it was just a gimmick it would have a passed to the way side a while ago (think stingers).

I would like to add untill now I not had the idea the extra chamber for moisture makes it smoking better, just because my tobacco is bone dry when I smoke it. Also I like the look of a calabash with the military mounted saddlestem.

One is old, one is new. One has a vulcanite stem, one has acrylic. They both gurgle, and that is my experience with them.

Can't say anything about the system pipes since I don't own any, but I have been smoking a meer for the last week and am amazed to see that the chamber - and all the rest of the airways are BONE DRY after smoking. I've never experienced that with any of my briars, no matter the smoking technique or tobacco, there's always some moisture left. Not with the meer.

I don't think the system feature would add anything for me. I have a number of Peterson pipes, but only one P-lip and no system pipes. All mine have been successful smokers, without gurgling, and with no quality control issues, as there were for some buyers a few years ago. I have suspected that my luck with Petersons related to buying less complicated pipes, perhaps. If I found a system pipe at a flea market for a giveaway price, and I liked the look and finish, I might consider it, but it is not on my list of desired pipes. My Petersons have been consistently good smokers and durable, as dependable as Savinelli, or MM cobs for that matter.
