I think a pipe has more character and is much more appealing when someone describes it with the passion you have Fred.
I think Fred has made a lot of people want a good meershaum in their rotation.

I know he's made me think about my neglected meers again.

Just so lonestar.

I did a thorough refurb last weekend on a meer lined Yorkshire that had been in the to do box for over a year, prompted in large part by Freds posts.
Impressed enough by the qualities of the meershaum lined bowl that now I'm giving serious thought to picking up a "real" meer.

Thanks guys. It really is a passion and it is contageous... The Meerschaum Group is moving into it's 3rd year and currently has 337 members. Learning more about these Pipes increases both the enjoyment and appreciation for them. It really is fun.

In response to my inquiries, this is what Eric @ Cupojoes had to say: "Peterson produced these in 2011 in limited quantities, on a special order basis. I don't know if they will make more of them or not, but they are not a standard production series. As far as I know, we are the only retailer in the US that carries them."
As yet I've not heard back from Peterson. Peterson has tried on several occasions to launch the Sherlock Holmes Meerschaums without success.

Marmal4de writes, "Probably because they're all bents :/ Save the Baker St."
More likely, the problem has been the availability of suitable raw materials for both Turkish high grade Block and African Block. Currently, the shortage of high grade Turkish Block is acute and Sellers of the current production of Sherlock Holmes Meerschaums are without stock... Some have even pulled their advertisements for this series, out of frustration over the difficulty of getting these Pipes to sell. The Original Collection, the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and the Return of Sherlock Holmes ranges in Briar continue to sell well to an avid collectors' audience worldwide. I don't think that the preference for straight Pipes is the underlying reason for this trouble with their Meerschaums.

While I have your attention though, Fred, how will something like this colour?

With waxing and continued smoking..., yes it will color. The display will eventually go to black. With the deep pigment finish and the years of surface grime that have migrated into the Block, the lighter displays of patina will not be easy to see. Once the absorbed oils of the smoke become rich enough for dark display, then you will see it go to black, but this is going to take a long time... The accumulation of grime from handling a Meerschaum is the most common reason that estate Meerschaums are slow to color.

Here's an example of what many years of smoking and waxing can do with a Peterson African Block Meerschaum... Remember that they are all colored at the factory with pigment finish and the Pipe has to darken beyond that, as well as compensate for the calcination process.

I had a very similar pipe in my cart the other day when I bought my new pipes. Decided to go with briars instead though. It's quite lovely.
