The shape of the square would put it 1968 and forward. The two points on top are clearly there. The distraction for me is the lower left has a severe cut in towards center then a tail out to the left. Its 1985 or 2005 U. Can you compare the size of the square to any other pipes ? P.S. I'm just giving my thoughts and how I would guess and not an expert. Interesting pondering.

It curiously missing the Hibernia and Harp symbols.
I think you are right at 2005 - the rustication is more that style.

I pondered that too but as the picture is limited I withheld guessing on it. I have an earlier Donegal Rocky with the smother rustication. Later it became deeper per PPN. The Peterson Stamp on the stummel looks more modern too.

I think at this point you have to get a microscope or take it to a a lab to try and raise any other symbols. How does it smoke without the symbols ? 🤔 ;)

definitely the hibernia symbol,in my opinion. Therefore missing the date on the right of the silver purity mark .925
I think I am correct that silver destined for the US didnt need to be dated, but its odd that it has the other marks but not the date

The shape of the square would put it 1968 and forward.agreed but from peterson pipe notes

From 1891 through 1938 and 1969 to the present, Peterson’s silver-mounted pipes have carried three hallmarks: ‘Hibernia’ seated, arm on harp, for the country of manufacture; the ‘Harp Crowned’ (through 2002) or ‘.925’ (from 2003), designating sterling quality

so this would make it newer than 2003

The pipe has not been restored yet, here's the full picture from the seller. There's definitely not a worn off date symbol.

I only have one Rocky Donagal with the block "PETERSON" stamped on the silver. All the other Rocky Donagal's that I have worked on do not have the PETERSON name stamp, only the K&P. The stamping and rustication styles are identical to this one.
So, I suspect this one is from the 1980's.

Here's the finish pipe, an easy clean-up. This one will fit in nicely in my collection of small bent billiards.

Great clean-up job but from the pictures I think I liked the dry look before you waxed the bowl. Somehow it looked more 'antique' to my eye. Just preference. Your way would probably sell better.

I'm pretty sure the 'harp' was replaced with the .925 symbol in 1992, but you might be right that they began using the oval one in 2002. I have owned a couple of Petersons with the .925 stamp and no date hallmark. Here's a strange one that I kept only because of the odd hallmarks. I purchased it from a closed shop's NOS that dated mostly to the late 1980's/early 1990's.

the Peterson thinking man doesn't translate well as a stamp. If I am going to be honest I do think this is awesome but he looks here less like the thinking man and more like the man with mild indigestion.
