I must admit I was somewhat tempted by a Heritage D17 this year, but I still just feel pretty ambivalent about that finish.

No, unfortunately I didn't have the funds. I had money for more tobacco or a Christmas pipe but not both. I went for more tobacco.

As stated in the Peterson thread, as soon as I picked up the 230 I received for the first time, the ferrule slid loose from the stem. I assume these are affixed with some sort of glue?

I contacted Peterson who told me to contact the reseller.

I contacted the reseller (in the UK) who gave me 2 options:

1. Return it at my expense and they will swap it for another pipe and credit me the cost of shipping.
2. Have it repaired here in the US and they will credit me for the repair.

Problem is, I have no idea who would be able to repair this competently.

Peterson is doing everything in their power to stop me from buying their pipes. Bad smoking dracula, Christmas pipe, etc.

I would just use some 2 part epoxy and do it yourself. I can’t believe they asked you to pay for a return for what is clearly a defective product. Very bad look.

I have no problem doing that but being new to smoking pipes and all, was unsure if there would be any health concerns using epoxy on a breathing stem which will see low grade heat. You know, health concerns above and beyond the cancerous smoke I will be inhaling anyway.

I would just get some clear two part 2 part epoxy. It will say the dry times on the back of the package. After that it will be done “gassing” off whatever it will gas off and be fine.

I agree with others that a two part epoxy would work, with no chance the ferrule will ever escape again.

And regarding the other option, if they’re willing to credit you for repair I can recommend MadPipes LLC personally, from some restoration work he did on one of my pipes.

I wonder if reaching out to Laudisi here in the states would get you anywhere?

Oh heavens, a clear glue of nearly any sort is an easy fix. The 2 pipes I had where the ferrules came loose after years of use were easily re-attached with it.

Just go easy on the glue so it doesn’t ooze out and suggest you tape the outside surfaces with blue painters tape.

Anyone else had any issues like this? Looks like verdigris. I haven't smoked this one yet, and haven't really touched the copper other than disassembling once or twice for moving. For reference I have just checked all my other copper and brass Pete Christmas pipes and none have any problems.

Thanks @cosmicfolklore for the advice to clean with salt and vinegar, I'll give it a go.
