I pulled the trigger and purchased the 221. It’s lighter and has a bigger bowl.

Thank you all for the input! I’ll post a photo when it arrives.
I’m surprised that the 221 is lighter. I suspect that one of the pipes was weighed incorrectly.

The 221 should be the heavier pipe, as found in my comparison of Christmas 2023 pipes (and mentioned in my previous post), but I don’t know which pipes in particular the OP was looking at.

I know it's an old thread, but I'm wondering if you ever got your 221? Would love to see it. My SPD 221 is the first pipe I ever acquired, back in 2011. I love it.

I would go with the 221. You can always load half a bowl or come back to an half smoked bowl later. You can’t overfill a 230.

On the flip side, if you like the feel of a smaller pipe or want to be able to stow it easily, then the 230 is your best bet.
