Imagine jarring a tin of nitroglycerine.

I have started to bag half the flakes in a tin of flake, small bag that can live in the tin, to keep part two moist until I get to it. Burley or VaBur flake especially, loses flavour dried out.

Had one come in not in great condition.
Opened it up today. I’m not too sure the seal was intact or not. (Could not smell any tobacco before opening it)
Jarred the flake contained inside.

I am going to save the tin, toss something else in it and see if it dries out.

I only have a four-year sample of PH cans, but I weighed them to the third decimal in grams, and last time I checked in January, there has been no change in weight.

So far, so good.

I had a can I used to just reseal for several years with no problem. I finally just jarred it so I wouldn't have to find something to pry the top off each time.
Just opened two cans of it today.
One can was damaged… I think it still held the seal. Other can was pristine, and held a seal. I’d trust the undamaged one to hold a seal and even reseal tobacco in.

I did a test seal on a can.
Took an undamaged can and jarred the tobacco.

I poured water into the paint can, sealed it, turned it upside down.
After about 10 mins I could see water coming out of the can. Not sure this constitutes enough concern about long term storage in these tins though.

I'm not sure if the OP meant sealing for cellaring or sealing for an opened can - will it dry out the blend if I keep it in there X amount of weeks or months? I'm asking about the later, because I just got 100gm tin and I typically put all my opened tins in a mason jar, but I was wondering if this paint can provides a better seal for an open tin versus a standard round tin?
