Just for the record ....As GL Pease has explained, at tedious length in other forums, there is no difference between "real" St. James perique and Arcadian perique. If you've smoked a pipe tobacco blend in the last four decades, you've been smoking Arcadian perique. Which IS the real thing. The only -- repeat, ONLY -- difference is the concentration of St. James perique in the blend -- not whether it contains "real' St. James perique or not. The distinction between "real" perique and the other was a marketing ploy developed, as Pease puts it, by some unscrupulous gentleman in the early 2000s (claiming they had the "real" stuff while all others were selling fakes). As such things often do, it became an internet and marketing meme. Arcardian perique is REAL perique that is mixed in with some burley, which is then processed alongside the St James product to give a consistent flavor, texture, etc. It's also a way to stretch a rare product further. But it ALL contains St. James perique. The difference would be a question of percentages. Again, this has been the practice for decades, and unless you've traveled to St. James parish yourself you've likely not tasted "real" perique (and certainly haven't in any commercially prepared mixtures).
Sorry for the rant, but someone mentioned the distinction above and I wanted to set the record straight.
BTW -- great topic! I love this stuff myself. My fave blend is OJK, which has no less than 25 percent of the stuff.
